Okay I'm in my 3rd year of college and running out of cash :) My fafsa won't qualify me for any financial aid. I get a subsidized stafford loan for enough to pay for each semesters tuition. how do I pay for mmy apartment and stuff now though? I've got a credit card through citibank and have a good credit rating with them and was looking at their citiassist loan which seemed to be good, expect it says if you get qualified they send the money to your schools financials aid office. That won't do me any good since I live off campus! Is there a good website to apply for some other student loans somewhere? I'd hate to ruin out of money after 3 years :D Thanks all!

it is going to cost me 14k this year to go to school. im going to be a junior this year and it is the first year im going to be an RA also. so knock 5.2k from the price, it helps to pay for a lot, i really suggest doing it.

When me and my sister were born we were each given oil wells.. since the price of oil is ever changing you never know what each check wil be.. However I am a senior in college with 2 classes left until I grad...
i used this money which is set up in a CLUB ACCT...
I have been using that to pay for my school...

i've got a full-time job :( makes school alot more difficult.

the government won't give me any free money either. I think I've got to be 24 to qualify for low-income aid, and by the time I'm 24 I'll be making way too much.... so I guess it's just gonna come out of my pocket. One thing thats helped is getting as many hours as possible at a community college, it's a much cheaper way to get the crap classes out of the way.

US Army! 4yrs of school paid (not a penny out of my pocket) and I still have 18K to use up. Of course that required a 4yr hitch and I was in the National Guard during school. :)
If your not ready for collage after High School, you cant beat it!

My Father paid my tuition, rent and books, the rest was up to me (bar money :), personal stuff, fun stuff, Sorority etc.) and I paid for that by working part time during school and full time during the summers. He said he would only pay for four years of school and if it took me longer than that, then I would be on my own. Needless to say, it was a big motivator for me not to mess around at school.

Soybomb--

Even though the lender pays the school directly, the school should refund any overage to you. I had a mix of scholarships, grants, and loans and they were all paid to the school (except for one which was payable to both the school and me but mailed to the school--every semester I would have to go to the financial aid office to sign for it and pick that one check up...). I went to a state school, so I had a big-time credit after all the checks came in. Every semester before classes started they'd set up a big room at the student union and all the students would come get a check for the amount of the credit balance on their acct.

Sounds a little confusing, but basically the school collected all the money, subtracted out tuition/fees, and refunded the rest. Are other schools different?

P.S. Loans are a bitch but are a fact of life for most people. The good thing is that regular loan payments really help build your credit history and will more than likely help you qualify for a home loan someday. Fortunately I only have a couple thousand to pay off (didn't borrow much in the first place), but I still hate writing that check every month.

I'm still trying to figure that one out too. My parents won't co-sign anything, & they don't have the money to put me through school. If I'm in school full time I don't have to pay rent, but that's about all the help I'll get. I'm not old enough to be considered truly independant, even though I've been claiming myself on my tax return since I was 17. Schools financial aid departments won't even look at me until my parents have applied, which they won't do since they know they'll get approved.

I would love to be able to go to school full-time, & I think I could pull it off if I could get loans for the tuition.

I have most of the bills covered by state scholarship and a few grants (Pell Grant in particular). I was working in Work Study up until recently. Also, occasionally my parents will chip in and my aunt helps a lot.
