A nerdy friend recommended it to me as a place to find good computer help. For some reason, this is the only forum I've really stuck with over the years.

It just feels like home now. I wake up, make my breakfast, and sit down to read Engadget and browse the forums here.

Had a little trouble with my E8400 back then ... First I joined Toms Hardware and then Anandtech.

Was told to go here to get help building a computer way back when.
Decided it was an interesting place to waste time.

Since then, I'm pretty sure I've just posted in OT, HT and once in a while in Security.

physics teacher before me pointed me at the hot deals section here. And, back then, hot deals were HOT deals - i.e. after the rebates came back, sometimes you made a profit. Today, it seems like a price drop of $1 on a $250 video card is considered a "hot deal". I lurked for most of a year, then signed up either to comment or point out a hot deal I found. I think I went 3 years before discovering the allure of OT.

I found ATOT way back in 2002 or something. I didn't join because it didn't allow web-based e-mail accounts. Then in 2007 I finally decided that it was time to join a good tech forum, so I got myself a valid e-mail address from my ISP and joined.

I am not sure if it was linked from Tom's Hardware (I use to read that before I came here) or if it was when Leo Laporte interviewed Anand on the Screensavers.

God, I freaking miss those days!!! I'd give damn near anything to go back 10 years...technology was so exciting and major breakthroughs took place everywhere. The dot-com boom, websites galore, and when 1024x786 was a 'huge' screen resolution. The crawl to 1GHz was underway and now we just get more and more cores of the same CPU speed added to each generation of CPU. :p

I think it was for some info on building my first custom-built computer. I think a Google search led me to the forums.

Came here thru toms hardware and the overclockers list and the hardware group, back then Anand was a member of the Hardware Group. Lurked for a long time here before joining.

I was watching Mosh through her bedroom window, as I do every night, and I saw her on the computer so I picked up my binoculars to see what she was looking at, checked it out for myself and decided to stay! :p

I've actually been here since '97 or early '98 but under a different username then. (Asked to have a change and was ignored)

I saw an article in the newspaper about this 14 year old kid from N.C. that started up a computer hardware review site hosted by geocities. Thought I'd check it out.

I was a lurker for a year or two before I realized that the reason I couldn't register was because I was using a hotmail account or something.
