My FS/FT ventures initally brought me to AT because it had the quickest moving FS/FT forum. I didn't post much for about 2 years even though I had registered. Started posting a lot more about a year ago when I found OT...

I was in a computer architecture class when I was going to school for my CS degree. My teacher was really into building his own computers and he showed us AT as one of the places he looked for hardware reviews. After taking that class, and discovering the fun of gaming (Quake 2) from a guy I worked for, I decided to build my own computer and started reading all the AT articles. Didn't even realize there were forums until quite a while after that.

Searched for motherboard reviews or hardware reviews or something. Didn't find the forums until months later.

I was reading an article in one of those computer magazines, either PC Magazine, PC World, you get the idea; and it mentioned something about a good website for computer hardware review. So I found anandtech.com, and a few months later discovered the forums and registered.

When I was in 6th garde (I'm a freshman in college now) we got these "time for Kids"...and on the last page there was a "Kid who is really smart" kind of thing...something about how he ran his own site and knew everything about the site. His name was like Anand or something, and he added "tech" to his name. That was the first recollection I have of this site.

Then I remember back in 9th grade wanting to do a serach for my Luckystar mobo...b/c something was messed up with it (500mhz k6-2). I somehow remembered the word "anandtech" and typed it in, and poof! It existed. I registered and asked my question but I never posted beyond the scope of my question

Then 2 years ago I went to build a pc, and thinking I was the greatest at pcs, and I came to this site and I registered and BAM my comp knowledge skyrockted (I initially remembered hearing crap like "northbridge" "kt333" and i was freaked out b/c I had no idea what was going on- its amazing how much you learn by just READING)

so that is it ^^ been here since then...all because of a 5 sentence article in a magazine designed to influence kids to purchase "Time" when they become adults

Winding through the web, learning about overclocking the sweet Celly 300 got me started and landed me at the FS/FT forum of the late, legendary and long lamented AGN.

It was a short slide here to Anand's, where most AGN'ers had dual membership anyway.

I found AT when I was shopping for a replacement for my 'ol 486. I was reading newsgroups and found Tom's Hardware and Anandtech. Both sites were invaluable resources, but AT was more interesting to me because it was US-based and it was all written by a smart 16 year old kid (Anand!) who really understood PCs, and obviously loved to tinker with them.

Thanks to AT, I ended up with the famous Abit BH6 + Celeron 300 @ 450. Later got a 566 + slotket and ran that sucker at 850, but I still ran that BH6 until last spring (when the MB finally died due to some dried/burst electrolytics).

I also suggested the same BH6 + Celeron 300 to a dude at work who was building his first system to play games on. He was happy as hell when it booted up at 450, and thanked me for helping him get an extra $250 worth of performance for nothing more than the slightly higher cost of the BH6 over a different motherboard. (I wonder if that one is still running. . .)

hah, I bought a Celeron 300a BH6 combo, and then a celeron 533a (to run at 800) after reading about them on anand ...
