99' @ sharkyextreme, there was a link... Lurked, mostly in the hot deals forum, until around 2000 i started posting and came on to OT.

Read an article sometime, somewhere about a young kid upgrading a computer. Checked it out, lurked for a while, been here ever (evar) since!

Well, it was back in mid to late 2000, and I found AnandTech through some sort of search engine, IIRC. I didn't even know about the forums or DC for a while, but just read articles. Eventually I discovered the forums and after lurking for a short while, I signed up. Life's never been the same since. ;)

Edit: Actually, the Hitachi and Buy.com fiasco was when I discovered the forums. I discovered Anandtech while searching for information about AMD's K6.
