Oddly, I havent looked for hot deals in years.

Well, it was back in mid to late 2000, and I found AnandTech through some sort of search engine, IIRC. I didn't even know about the forums or DC for a while, but just read articles. Eventually I discovered the forums and after lurking for a short while, I signed up. Life's never been the same since.
