Somewhere around 1998, my old man bought a Packard Bell PC. Piece of junk, mind you, but I was able to get on the internet with it, through AOL no less
🙂 . My fruitless searchs on how to improve my Packard Bell computer led me to the many hardware sites. By some links, from a hardware site that has bit the dust, I came to anandtech (very highly recommended too, I might add). Thanks to Anand, I was able to build a new Celeron 300Mhz system with the abit BH6 motherboard, then I OC'ed to 450 Mhz! The BH6 is still in used, as back up. The anantech forums, well that was through agn3d or was it voodooextreme, when I was still a member of the forums there. There was this "hot deal" for a 19 Inch iiyama monitor from
www.buy.com. Anyway, it was like gold fever, and everyone wanted to be in the "deal of the century". Turned out it was a pricing mistakes, and the sky fell...for the wouldn't be owners of a 19" monitor (flat screen too). I visited Anand's forums to see who got the monitors and who didn't. There were many rants about what evil deeds buy.com had done to them, which were entertainment themselves to read. It lessened the pain for not getting that beautiful monitor for under $300.
