My brand new, retail box maxtro 40gb 7200 ata 100 harddrive that i just bought for my secondary box just blew. it was working for about 1 month before this happened, all i did was opened up the case a few days ago, unplugged my IDE, and power cables from my HD, (they were in the way) and installed a new floppy drive, becasue my other one was bad from the get go. when i plugged everything back in, exactally the same way it was before.

when i booted up, it went into windows xp just fine, then after 5 mins, it died. i tried tried turning the power back on. and no IDE drive was decteted. it actually got into XP one time out of like 20, but since then nothing. i cracked open the case, to verify that everything was ok. unplugged, replugged the hdd in. unplugged the fd. but to no avail. my old 10gb drive still works like a gem.

i noticed that the HD isnt even spinning when the computer is on...

what did i do / what can i do to fix this problem

as lord said you probly broke/bent pin.. ... or maybe you even damaged the IDE cable. Try using another IDE cable, and check the jumpers on all the drives.
