While we're on the subject, how did they do that Color of War series on the history channel?

they take thousands of monkeys, and give them each 1 frame of a movie, and some paint. they naturally know what to do.

Guys, Gone With the Wind was filmed in color, they used the only major color technology of the day, Technicolor, just like The Wizzard of Oz.

The thing is it was shot in colour.

The first colour movie ever was "A visit to the seaside". It was 8 mins long and made in 1908.
The first full length colour movie was "The World, The Flesh and The Devil" from 1914.

With no offense to G.A. Smith, Kinemacolor is not color; Red & Green do not a real color movie make(although it was a nifty trick).

PS Frustrated, you're in Virginia; what's up with the U in "color"? :p

Heh, not born here so I learned brittish English ;)

I know the first colour movie from 1908 is not true colour but Kodachrome came out in 1935. Also, check out the Autochrome from 1904. Pretty amasing.

Gone with the wind was the first movie taking advantage of the new faster Tecnhicolor film. The first Technicolor fiolm was shot in 1934.

IMHO, nothing since has even come close to the wonderfully hyper saturated full color of a Technicolor film. The process was abandoned principally because it was expensive and time consuming, IIRC. The Chineese now own the entire Technicolor process. Fear them, my friends.

yeah, it did. the original 2D animation at Walt Disney did had hand painted cells. they had a person whose whole job was mixing paint so it was exactly the same frame to frame.

That doesn't really sound that bad. If you're scientific and keep track of what you used to make each color, all you have to do is measure it out and make another batch.

Yup

Yup. As I recall, the reason technicolor was not used more extensively was because it produced a brighter, more cheerful color. This is fine for say, Errol Flynn Robin Hood movies, but not say, grittier hollywood gangster movies.

Even thought Gone with the wind was filmed in color. Ted Turner had it "restored" (or re-colored). Apparently it does not look ver good. link

It turned into color with everything else sometime in the 60s. It was pretty grainy color for awhile too.

:cookie: if you get the reference.
