Two insightful comments; the really of the "not-talked-enough about" conditions that perpetuate today's mostly atrocious types of slavery in a modern world where we should be well beyond such cruelty to are fellow man which in now is mostly young girls sold for survival by the improvised conditions of their family; the girls doomed to a life of prostitution and debauchery.

And the second insightful comment expressing the overlooked really of initial result of the Emancipation Procuration and subsequent 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments. That reality lasted almost until the 20th century; at least 3 decades.

Perhaps this thread will amount to something.

Wait...you mean humans acting like animals? Ya don't say. Methinks you've never visited the third world, and have no idea what actual "humanity" is all about. Selfish gain at the sacrifice of others. There is no hope, never has been. You think a young girl being sold into sexual slavery is the pinnacle of this? Tell me of this fantasy world you live in, it sounds nice.

This is true, when you look at living standards slaves were compensated better as slaves than workers. This isn't attaching value to not being owned by someone.
Plantation owners would be shamed for starving their slaves but not shamed for paying too little for a family to eat.
 
I doubt there was a true "last day" for everyone. It isn't like after the war word spread of the 14th amendment to everyone like it would today.

And even then, I'm sure a lot of places had to be "forced" to release their slaves. And even more structured some "you're free and I'll pay you so little it might as well be slavery" to keep working my land, but not living on my dime.

How did they educate a group of formerly enslaved on just what rights they had and how to function as free members of the nation? Slavery had gone on long enough that generations were born and died in bond; they simply knew nothing else.

You are incorrect; I have visited the third world, however it was in the 60s and I'm sure as you stated I was appalled by the state of humanity which I attribute too many people and not enough resources. I believe I addressed that thusly; "..the improvised conditions..."but this thread isn't about the wrongs you espoused but about the end of slavery and Printer Bandits noting that slavery is over yet.

If you wanted to start a thread about any of the wrongs you stated I would gladly participate. Selfish gain at the sacrifice of others in a world of no hope; is a worth thread.

Lastly I do not think "...a young girl being sold into sexual slavery is the pinnacle of ..." the conditions you correctly detailed BUT this thread is about slavery "...a young girl being sold into sexual slavery is..." the most despicable form of modern slavery and the end of slavery, which hasn't been reached and may never be reached." is the subject of this thread.

It's true. There was at least one slave state that didn't secede (Maryland, I think) that wasn't effected by the emancipation proclamation (which only applied to occupied southern territories.) I forget what happened: if they got rid of it independently or if it lasted until the constitutional amendments passed.

Sure. What are we arguing here? AFAIK we tend to place a fairly high value on freedom in this country, seems a little flip to say "OH GREAT NOW THE SLAVES ARE FREE TO STARVE TO DEATH. GG, LINCOLN!"
