How did it become cool to hold a pistol sideways??

Speaking of gansta was anyone in Tacoma, WA when a bunch of Army Rangers and either Bloods or Crips got into a shootout? I forgot how many rounds were expended(I think it was over a thousand) but noone got hit! Doesn't say much for the Rangers if they can't take out a bunch of street punks.

Some stupid gang banger thought it up... oh well they are the ones that will be shot because they don't aim properly.

they are all cowards, they never actually intend to hit each other. they just want to make it look like they are shooting each other in front of their homeboys.

its like in the 1800's when somebody challenges you to a duel, you go out, shoot your pistol in the air, and then have drinks together afterwards. that was the aaron burr vs. alexander hamilton story, except after hamilton shot straight up in the air, burr shot him. guess he was serious

My first thought would be to find which movie first depicted a person holding it sideways, as I figured a movie would propogate that style much faster than word of mouth.

Its when they (ganstas yo!!) started punching while shooting guns. I guess they do this when they're cappin really close.

The blacks, were the first I saw of it and it actually goes way back to Boyz n the hood, or something like that. Unfortunately, there is no sight in at that angle, but it might work at point blank. :Q

You have seen someone in real life hold a gun this way or just in a movie and tv?

I think it was Don't Be a Menace to Society.

I've only heard of one guy that's really held a gun sideways, and that was because he held one in his left hand. It caused the casing to drop straight down. In the right hand, it flys up and smacks you in the face.

I've heard about that. A coworker's husband was stationed at Ft Lewis at the time. I wasn't sure if it was true or not, since she's the only person I'd ever heard it from. IIRC, the rangers were not allowed to live off base after that. And I believe that the rangers missed on purpose, no sense in going up on a murder rap, just as fun to scare the crap out of a bunch of bangers. As to why the bangers missed, well, it's hard to shoot accurately holding your gun sideways while fleeing. 😛

I'd also lean towards the Rangers just firing the rounds to scare them off. If one of them did go down, I have a feeling that the battle would suddenly get very serious though, and it wouldn't be the Rangers on the losing end of it.

It's so when the burning hot shells eject, they pop straight up and land on your hand, scathing your skin and putting you in excruciating pain so that your next shot is extra accurate. Wouldn't want them to fly top-right and out of the way...

Havent shot a gun very much, have we? Getting hit with freshly fired brass is no more than a distraction, and certainly doesnt cause "excruciating pain".

Especially the "missing everyone they shot at" part.
