How did I do? Just bought this 5870.

I'm looking to upgrade my entire rig early next year but I was able to snag this 58570 for $240 AR. I've never seen it so cheap so I bought it without normally posting up and asking about it since it was bound to sell out.

Did I just do a terrible impulse buy? I'm still running a GF8800 GTS. I wonder if my Corsair HX520 PSU will be enough for this card.

it says $269 AR in that link but if you really got it for 240 then that is a pretty good deal.

you have been here 10 years so you should now there is no way to determine if your psu is enough without listing all your specs.

There was a 10% off coupon as well on the card. I'm just wondering if this card is any good. I was looking at 5850s but many of them weren't "reference" designs and I couldn't tell one from the other and I wanted to OC. It doesn't seem like this is a very OCable card but just wondering if anyone has any experience with it.

That's a great deal. HD5870 > HD6870 or GTX470. Also, the one you got has a quieter fan than reference design. In case you are worried about the HX520, that PSU is built like a rock. My GTX470 with an i7 860 @ 3.9ghz runs np. Since HD5870 consumes less power, you have nothing to worry about. Congrats on the new card as it's a huge upgrade from what you had before.

I picked up up a NIB 5870 yesterday for $230cdn off of CL. I'm pretty pleased with that.

Awesome for Canada. The cheapest on Newegg.ca is still ~ $350 before rebate and $12 shipping.

I got in on the exact same deal. Hopefully I don't get buyer's remorse. I'm running a system with Intel Q9400 with 6gb DDR2-1066 RAM. I hope I'm not too bottlenecked by the CPU.

I wouldnt call it a buyers remorse thread, as it was a good deal. Only thing I can think of is if the OP wants to do high OC's on the sapphire, I am not sure it will work with MSI afterburner, might not have voltage adjustment, and will only go to 900/1300 with CCC.

Interestingly enough, I was kind of bummed out when the visiontek 5870 i ordered wasnt reference, so it doesn't work with OC outside of CCC. I just use ccc to set them to 900/1250. One other issue is that it is a triple slot card in practicality. Third pcie x16 slot on my mobo is partially blocked by the cooler. Oh well, I still have the x4 if I want to add sound card or USB 3 card.

I would say that a 5870 for $250 is market value for the card. I don't think it is a good deal, nor it is a bad deal. It simply is market value given that the 6870 has since been released.

AT had the 6870 trailing the 5870 by 7% on average, and, well... If we mark up the $239.99 7% we come up with $256.79. Again, fair market price.

The 6870 will also use less power, and thus, that small difference in purchase price would likely be saved over the life of the card by going with the 6870. Just my opinion though.

FWIW, that coupon 10% code seems to work for a lot of video cards at newegg. I was curious so I checked out a few things. I had two 6870s in my cart for $442 and a GTX 470 + Mafia II for $234 (AMIR $20), all prices inc. shipping. Not a bad weekend to shop for a video card. 🙂

I bought two more HD6870s with the 10% off coupon code. Now I'm going to own three of them. Can they three-way Crossfire?

I suppose that would have been a great question to ask prior to buying a third card.. seems like some good deals going right now for cards. I'm still waiting for the 69xx in a few weeks or the 580.

You can't tri-fire HD68xx series because the card would need a 2 CF connectors. Even if you could, that CPU isn't going to cut it for 3 HD6870s.
