Says the poor little man who just registered this month!;) Do you have anything better to do than to lash insults? And for your info, I'm one of the Anandtech Web News Reporters so most of my posts came from posting about hardware news and reviews in General Hardware for the past 3 years and my love of cars for which I post in Off Topic. Care to make anymore comments about people you don't know? :D

I don't really think I need to know you very well to be making the comments I made... And as I recall, you were referring to another member as "full of crap" in an earlier post, which I would say was lashing out insults.
And as for being an anandtech web news reporter... who cares why you have all those posts? You still sat in front of the computer for 3 solid years making them! Don't kid yourself! Heh heh.

Shantanu and I have an understanding. I hate domestic cars, he hates imports. We go back and forth. But of course, you didn't know that;)

You on the other hand know nothing about me. Have a pleasant day :D

Eddie Murphy tried to pickup a transvestite prostitue
No, man, he was just driving along and saw this lonely individual. He stopped and asked her if she needed a ride home. Later apparently that she was a he, unbeknowest to Eddie. At least that's what he said when the camera arrived. He played his Beverly Hills Cop character perfectly. It was a beautiful thing. :)

Back on topic: if winning an Oscar actually meant something I might care.

I'm just wondering why Halle's winning has upset so damn many people who otherwise wouldn't give two sh1ts about the oscars.

That was what I was trying to get across. It's not like winning actually matters, most people forget who won by the next week...well, everyone except for the whiners;)

Her speech was classless. How about we get a white woman to win an image award and go onstage talking how groundbreaking and great it is for a white woman to win? It would be classless as well.

The academy awards are about achievement in film, not race.
Exactly, and her "achievement" in that movie most definitely didn't deserve any award.

Edit: one more thing...Why is she considered "black" if one parent is white? Because it's convenient enough so they can say a "black" woman has won an Oscar?
I wonder what her white parent thinks about their daughter being considered "black" without regard to their own "color".

What a lot of people don't seem to understand about the Oscars is that it's just an awards ceremony like any other. People have awards for all sorts of clubs and societies. They aren't all televised because less people care about those than the Oscars and regardless of what some people may think, there are lot of people who do care about the Oscars or are at least interested in who wins.

People also like to complain about the winners of the awards. They aren't really decided by a group of ten people sitting in a room and analyzing these movies based on filmmaking techniques, they are voted by the Academy members who may or may have not seen all or any of the films.

No one asks anyone to care about any of it, or even watch it and I'm sure that if people were to stop watching it, they would stop airing it. Every year, however, it's one of the broadcasts that has more viewers than any other. Second, only to the Super Bowl probably.

the people here are hating on Halle Berry cause they want her...BAD. They usually say the exact opposite of what they're feeling. I, too, want her...BAD. But, unlike others in this forum, I'm not in denial.

NFS4,
You ask why people care so much about these actors, and then proceed to give a detailed response to someone's assesment of Hugh Grant, outlining his career shift, and including verbatim quotes! You put forth that noone does or should care about the Oscars, yet you seem to know who won. Whose the hypocrite?

Perhaps you haven't thought this through, but the Oscars, along with all of the other "awards" ceremonies, are as much if not more for the consumer than for the actor. Why do actors want Oscars anyway? Because consumer demand for the winners increases. These people make their living off of appearance and publicity, and the Oscars are merely one of many ways that the industry perpetuates its glamor. Clothing designers clamor to market their wardrobes - do you think they are only doing so for the ability to market to the stars, or for the millions who tune in? Come on, kid, I'd expect more from you - as a big time Anandtech newsreporter, you are a part of "the biz", aren't you?
:)

First, its not "hating on". If you keep missing class, you might not ever graduate the fifth grade and your english might never improve. But if you do, and somehow make it to college, make sure to take a psychology course - you aren't too strong in that department either.

So, so angry. Don't take it so personal, Mr. Grouchy.

You are wrong. Her tapability has nothing to do with her acting. I'd be all over it. But not because I think she's a great actress or anything. She's hot.

No, not in particular. Just sorely tired of, what I call, Rikki-lake people. Such people, no matter what is being talked about, boil the argument down to (1) its all a result of "haters", and (2) the reason behind the "hating on" is because they are in "denial" - a denial only these wise rikki-lake people see.
