OpFor was the one with being left on a plane in space, right? Or was that halflife? I played them all in one week so I have them a bit mixed up ;) Anyway, the Administrator (dude in suit) puts you away for safekeeping IIRC.

The final boss was like this giant levitating baby that could teleport you, but was easy to beat with the CROWBAR (I did it that way!) if you could bounce on his head. After that, the screen went black and you were back in the tram from the opening, except you were flying thru space and the Creepy Suit Guy was there. He gave a little speech about how this was all a simulation and you flashed to various locations including a battleground (memory's a bit sketchy, cuz I played it when it came out over 4 years ago) and then offering you the choice of working with him or leaving the tram (red or blue pill moment).

If you stayed with him, the screen went black and a title said something about you awaiting assignment, BUT if you chose to leave, you teleported into darkness and when the lights come up, you're in some place TOTALLY SURROUNDED by the monsters of the game!:Q The screen goes black and you see a super saying "Subject: Gordon Freeman - Case closed" or something like that.

The Marines were definitely the coolest enemies in the game. Their cooperative tactics were great.

I vastly enjoy taking out those pesky attack helicopters with my 9mm sidearm :D Just keep aiming for the engine inlets and expect to go through a lot of ammo... I still haven't figured out how to kill the Giant Asparagus Creatures, other than in the rocket test pit with the rocket engine.

I'm pretty sure you can't.

You can temporarily make them go sleepy-bye with the crossbow, maybe for three seconds or so. But yeah, I gave up trying. If the attack chopper's rocket attacks won't take them out, then nothing I have is likely to work either.

Has it occured to you to walk by those things quietly? If you make no noise they stop attacking ;)

Yes, or I'd use grenades to create a loud noise elsewhere, as a diversionary tactic.

I replayed HL recently and decided that the Nihalinth (final boss monster in Xen) should face Death By Grubs (aka "snarks"). That was kind of fun :D

Good memory . . . and a "set-up" for HL 2. ;)

I liked the final boss in HL: Opposing Forces (much) much better . . . it took a little more thought to beat it.
Anyone else agree?

Yes, but there is a "random" factor that made it rather difficult. I found using grenades, zig-zaging and "save" strategically worked consistently.

hmm thought u got a choice at the end. one path led to getting teleported to your death surrounded by monsters, and the other kept u alive. rest i forget.

OK, since we're talking about Half-Life here...

I was never able to finish the game.

I think I had a glitch or something.

I verified the walkthrough, and it said that after you kill the giant thing with the rocket engine, you're supposed to jump in the pit where it came from, and at the very bottom there would be a passage to the next level.

Guess what, whenever I got to the bottom of the pit, there was nothing, no opening, no teleport.... I never went beyond that level. And since Half-Life had no cheat codes, I couldn't warp to the next level, I just had to abandon it... :(

I don't recall the Suit Dude saying anything about a simulation.

He said something like "Thanks to your efforts the border world know as Xen is now under our control, for the time being", etc etc.
Then you had to step into the portal to accept his offer, or stay, and the door to the portal would close and you were sent to the monsters ;)

That part was really just very dark. Eventually you would fall through to a small area filled with water and go on from there.

No. The guy at the end of HL was soooo much better than the guy at the end of OF. The guy at the end of half life would teleport you yto all those places, spawn new guys to attack you, and you had to fly over his head to kill him. The guy in opfor was so easy. Shoot in eye, shoot in other eye, throw grenade, repeat. If he ever hit you you could just walk around the corner and fill up with health, and he was really not threatening at all.

As I mentioned, it's been a looooooong time since I played it, but wasn't there a point where you went to a "battlefield" with dead humans and aliens and Creepy Suit Guy was talking like it hadn't been an "accident", but more of a test? I remember it being like Freeman was being used by Evil Forces, thus explaining why CSG was always there, observing you throughout the game.

Someone go play the end of the game RIGHT NOW and report back!

Half-Life, for all you ladies out there that switched to different multiplayer gamers, has not ended yet. Still to this day there are over 1000 severs world wide with players playing HLDM ( not camper-strike ). The games 4 and 1/2 years old now and really it you have the hard drive spcae you should check out an avi that was made of how some of half-lifes true elite players are playing it today.

You need DivX or at least a codec that comes in the zip.

Website thats hosting it

Direct link - not sre if it will works

I guess I just didn't have any trouble with the Boss in HL. . . . just avoid the teleporting green goo (I think) to stay there and fire the big guns from cover or - easiest of all - jump on top of it's head and smash it's brain with the crowbar.

I don't think it was a simulation; but it was a test anyway.
That part when you're transported into the "battle you have no chance of winning" it sucks that you can't actually do anything there.
I think it says "Subject: Gordon Freeman. Deceased. Cause: Refused employment." Something like that.:)

I like taking them out with that laser thing; quick and easy I guess. Much quicker than a 9mm gun.;)

Yup, definitely a glitch. That's like maybe only half of the game up to there. Look for the latest updates for it; probably can find it on Google, or if I remember right, Half-Life has an updater built-in - hlupdate.exe or something like that. I think there's around 100MB of updates available.

Easy, change your filter to only show severs that are Half-life ( might be Valve )

Because of camper-shiet valve took out bunny hopping, which affected bunning hopping in deathmatch. Quake players and UT players can still bunny hop, why shouldn't HL players be able to? Because it ruins counter-strike thats why. So a smart euro player made a small mod that allows it again, plus the abililty to vote for maps, time limit on maps. Also lets you control winamp and comes with a handy in game server brower. Just read the readme.txt or in game bind "k" "+commandmenu"

The mod is only 30 megs in size. It's called Adrenaline Gamer MOD. And can be found here Check out the screenshot page.

the last remaining 70 or so HL clans, in Europe and North America use this MOD for matches and tournaments. And if Valve has any sence of whats happened to their HLDM comunnity they should really pay attention to whats happened in this MOD - Added was Votable modes of play - ie: Arena, Capture the FLag, Last Man Standing.

Heres a screenshot of and match that was played just this week. - Click me

The Adrenaline Gamer MOD was first targeted as an easy server side replacement for the Half-Life Deathmatch clans. But now it's targeted for all players that want a better Half-Life Deathmatch experience.
It's got cheat protection, spectator mode, new game modes and match features.

If you're not going to check out the Mod and still want to play deathmatch watch out for Sev or OZ servers. They've been noobed out with shottys that fire really fast and other weapon changes. AG mod changes nothing to the weapons. Also because it's a small comunnity theres only about 100 servers world wide and it's cheaper to have severs passworded - so the official password for tis mod is halflife ( but backwards ). efilflah

Heres some deathmatch serers to svae you the trouble of finding them:
