How did cops in rodney king trial get acquitted?

I wasn't really following it when it happened but i just watched something on the riots and it showed some of the footage of LAPD beating him in the street. How the hell did they get away with that? I seem to remember something about them saying that "he tried to attack them with a broom" but the way they were beating him, you'd think he had killed an officer and all of their families.

What was the deal here?

Well, the thing is, the video you've seen is something like 25% of the available footage on the tape; IIRC the beginning of the tape (like 15 minutes of footage) shows him resisting arrest, attacking the officers, etc.

I believe it was the all-white (presumably racist) jury that sided with the white cops.

Cause sometimes a guy just needs a good beat down. I think the jury saw that and deferred to the cops' experience in this area

Yep. More people need to watch Chris Rock's "How to not get your ass kicked by the police"

On what evidence do you base that claim?
None. Hence the "I believe" in front of my assertion. Just because I say it, doesn't make it so.

if you "believe" that you should read up on the facts pertaining to the whole ordeal.

because his dumbass decided he should attack the police.

attack police = legal beat down. Stop attacking the police you low life scum bag druggie criminals.

so if you attack a cop its legal for them to beat the holy hell out of you? At one point the guy was down and he didnt look like he was getting up anytime soon yet they continued to beat him. Isn't that excessive?

Why OT is so much greater than P&N.

In P&N you would get something about how the religious right is trying to suppress the blacks and probably something about Bush and corporations spun into there somehow.

In OT you get "He needed a good beating."

Reality folks, live it love it. 😀

Exactly...R&O requires *some* force, but the police officers clearly used excessive force on King and with three officers conducting the beatdown and one 'aiding and abetting' it, they had a clear grasp on the situation. The force used was completely unnecessary, and IMO the three (possibly four) should have been convicted in CA state court.

They *were* convicted in federal court on civil rights charges, so there is clearly some guilt involved here.

well, i know it's not PC, but i don't really care if it's excessive or not. don't want it to happen to you? don't attack a cop!

Didn't you guys get the memo?? Rodney King was a victim of Bush's tyranny. He and the evil globalist oil corporations held this poor man down. Because he was used as a pawn by the jesusfreaks and fund-a-mental cases and evil capitalists, the least we could give him is free healthcare.

Those scumbag skinhead cops beat this poor innocent african-american man, who was down on his luck caused by evil republican and filthy zionist jew policies, to do drugs. as a result, he was beaten into a near terri schiavo like condition.

furthering Mr. King's pain was the decision to have his girlfriend abort their child, because the anti-christ george bush slashed the budget for child services because of the balooning defecit caused by the illegal iraq war. this caused mr king to have anal sex with his girlfriend, which is strictly forbidden by jesus christ in the holy bible.

Shame on them :|

Meh. What do you expect when you decide to attack a bunch of cops while you're high out of your mind? They're not unfeeling robots; and no matter what a person's profession is, if you try to kick their ass and fail you probably deserve to get yours kicked in return! 😛
