iPad is the best game in town in that segment.

I would not buy a power Mac, I run windows on my MBP, and my thinkpad is more as a back up now.

There is no real comparable laptop for the build quality apple offers plus local stores to fix things when they break (inevitable for a real working laptop on the road)

For my phone I would have gone Droid X but since my wife really wanted the iPhone (better Japanese support) and the phone plans were not sharable I went iPhone also.

I don't buy anything purely based on brand, but I dont have to buy cheap because of brand premiums either.

I have yet to reboot my apple phone, the short time I used a Droid and in supporting many phone platforms they all needed bouncing time to time...the iPhones as a whole did not need much intervention.

The F700 was not announced until Feburary 2007 and first shown hands-on at CeBIT 2007 in March. The phone itself was not publicly available until November 2007.

For one I am by far not the most wealthy person here. I'd consider myself middle class and I am sure those scraping by would say I had to be upper class. I am not here to brag about my money and that's why I know when someone like you sees it that way I know you are full of shit.

I have pretty much reported the events of my life here. Good and bad since 1999. I have challenged anyone to prove me wrong on anything major. Best so far has been asshat grabbing a typo or something out of context.

The problem is people then to describe things in other threads like how they are living at home, shacked up with a dozen of stoners, have car problems due to it being a POS beater....then try to make claims that they buy $500 video cards every 3-6 months, expensive luxury items, etc....yet when an Apple thread pops up immediately a $500 device is insanely overpriced and expensive and god forbid a tip or wage thread pops up. These people want to see everyone as impoverished as themselves and struggling.

Wow - this thread just keeps on giving.

I could have predicted the "Apple sheeple" comments, and the "iPad doesn't have the features of a shitty $700 17" laptop so it's a waste of money" comments, but I never would have predicted two of the usual suspects battling it out for the title of Internet's Angriest, Most Maladjusted Nerd, nor would I have thought that one's interpersonal relationships and/or choice in handgun would enter into the discussion.

It seems to me each of us has the ability to choose for ourselves what we want to buy, and the members here are pretty wide-ranging in terms of their ability to afford luxury items like iPads. I don't understand why this has to be a topic that engenders such anger. I don't think anyone is "stupid" for buying an iPad, nor do I think that a person who chooses not to should be presumed to be poor and jealous.

The bottom line: the market has spoken and millions of people find the iPad a useful adjunct to their other toys. If you don't want one, fine.
