How did a bad taxi driver cause WWI? My brother said it did and I just want to make sure he's right. I couldn't find anything on Google. =(

WWI started when Archduke Francis Ferdinand was shot while travelling in a car. (I think)

correct

The Crown Prince of the Austria-Hungarian empire, Archduke Francis Ferdinand, and his wife were killed by a Serbian nationalist in his moving vehicle, This event started WWI.
After the assassination, Austria-Hungary gave Serbia a list of demands and declared war on Serbia.
After Austria-Hungary declared war, Russia supported Serbia (and opposed Austria-Hungary), and Germany declared war on Russia.
France and Great Britain declared war on Germany because they honored the Triple Entente and supported Russia.

Wasn't a bad taxi driver, was a bad limo driver. (Though I suppose that's just a technicality.)

What happened was that the driver of Archduke Francis Ferdinand's limo made a wrong turn and while the limo was stopped to back up and go back to the planned course a person stepped out of the crowd and shot the Archduke. Had the driver not made the wrong turn, the assassin would not have had the opportunity to take the shot (in theory).

But that was just the event that ignited the hostilities. Had the Archduke not been assasinated, there still would have been a war.
