How dangerous is putting a CD in a microwave?

I have a spare microwave that I'll be throwing out soon anyway.... dozens of bad cd's.... and a few dead lightbulbs.

I wonder what I should do

I've done it several times with CDs. Under 10 seconds, and you'll be fine. You'll get a nice light show (electricity arcing across the surface of the disk), and the plastic will melt. You'll get a nice whiff of burnt plastic, too. But, over 10 seconds, and the plastic part of the CD might catch fire.

Please report back to us on the lightbulbs. I really don't feel like cleaning broken glass out of my microwave.

if its not your microwave, then 0 danger

if yours, evaluate the value of the oven

if less than 50, also 0 danger

if greater than 50, minimal danger

if greater than 100, slightly more danger - limit the time

its fun, we did it with bad CDs or the AOL ones, stand it upright, its much cooler, and if you get 2 in there, it will bridge the electricity between the 2 of them

and it does stink
