How could you mess up Dune worse than David Lynch?

Really looked forward to a good remake of the best scifi novel of all time - So I just got out of dune and was so bad - if you have insomia maybe not - but overly long and only told half what Lynch's two and a half hour exposition w. cat milking. Dramatic music cued up for everything. Even opening a door. Paul - total pussy makes Kyle Maclauchin seem like Arnold Swartzenegger.Emotionally, it just feels forced and hollow, like watching shadows on a wall.

Title edited to remove profanity.

Sadly I can't say I'm surprised at all .... looked terrible from the first preview IMO. (did fairly well in terms of earnings and reviews)

Reveiws yes but earnings tanked after first weekend. made like 2 million this week vs 40 million two week ago. reviews (paid?) hyped it hard and got ppl in the door, Now those people arnt recommending it most likely.

Dune has made $83M domestic, which since it's on Max is pretty decent. $330M global.

I watched it last night on HBO and felt pretty meh about it. It was a bit better than the original movie which I did not enjoy. I had no idea what was going one. In the new version there was too much whispering which made the movie hard to follow. It's no Lord of the Rings or original Star Wars trilogy.

I didn't have any real complaints, but it didn't really bring much new to the table. Feels like it should have just been an HBO tv show and they could have easily replaced the overpriced/overexposed actors like Zendaya, Aquaman, Bautista etc. I don't think Dune is really a story that translates that easily to a cinematic experience, it would be better off as episodic high budget tv.

I do think I would like to see it again in an imax type setting though, I saw it in a tiny theatre and the sound quality wasn't great.

I watched it on Saturday. I liked it, the low whispering without subtitles was annoying. I thought maybe they focused too heavily on setting the atmosphere instead of building the characters.

I felt like most of the actors were chosen wrongly. They said the lines as if someone was pointing a gun to their heads in a police lineup. Visuals were nice, but beyond that I'll stick with the Lynch version since I'm old enough to appreciate it. I think version are for the Y-generation and beyond.

I thought it was great.

By a little more than half-way through, I realized it was going to be a multi-movie portrayal, by the pace and how it progressed. I enjoyed it, but I can understand the other opinions posted here as well.

Still, I'll look forward to part 2.

LOL, 1985 Dude is the best space opera sci-fi movie of all time. A pure masterpiece on so many levels. The neck-beards will never understand that, they want cheesy dialog and big explosions LOL.

Yeah I didn't see/notice anything about part 1 or 2 until the end right before credits rolled, and hadn't looked at any info about the film before going to see it. The only knowledge I had going in, were 4 of the actors (Chalamet, Bautista, Momoa, and Isaac).

The original books are one of my all-time sci-fi favorites as well.

I'll def see 2021 Dune at some point for that reason although I doubt I'm going to really enjoy it based on reviews here and elsewhere.

i think i would do a worse job than david lynch

I have FULL confidence in your ability!! (or lack thereof?) ;)

I believe I am also sufficiently "qualified" in this regard!

Went to see it in 3D on the day it came out. Disapointed. The color palettes were bland trougout the movie and the 3D did not add anything. The extremely slow pace made it tedious at time. Otherwise, great acting, fantastical flying ships, great vilains 3.6 on the movie scale. Recommended.

After a rewatch, Denis spends a little too much time on lingering dramatic shots vs character development. A bit more balance would have been better if they didn't have the balls to add another 15-20 minutes of runtime
