Criminal charges need to be laid against the owner of that gun. Improper storage of a fire arm.
How could he be THAT stupid.

weight can not always be a dead giveaway. while its easy to tell if a gun is real by simple examination, i.e. this womanw as an idiot, weight can be deceptive.
the IR gun I used in the Army truck i was in, that had a target shooting gallery and americas army, was modeled after what I assume was a .45, and felt real. If it weren't for the extra buttons on the gun (namingly the button on the back-edge that had to be depressed with your palm holding the gun), and the fact that it didn't have the metal feel (assuming some kind of plastic, and not metal), it could have fooled me. the battery pack may have added weight to it. either way, it felt real in terms of weight.

Weight doesn't mean anything, anyway. If you've never handled a gun before, how the heck are you supposed to know how much it weighs?

Another reason why "just say no" no more works for guns than it works for sex and drugs.
Schools should all require firearm training and safety classes. Basic firearm safety in grammar school, and firearm training and safety in middle and high school.
Ignorance costs lives.
