How could someone get my insurance info?

A claims guy from Allstate calls me on Friday about a claim on my policy. I call him back today asking what this is about and he doesn't know what the claim is for, just who filed it and the date it was reported and filed. He says it was reported on June 30th, but I can't remember going anywhere on that day except to the neighborhood store a few hundred feet away to buy the Sunday newspaper.

I've never been in any incident since I've owned my car (about two years). The guy tells me that if nobody comes forward about this claim in the next couple of days he'll cancel it.

Anyone know how someone could make a claim without me giving them my information? I have absolutely no idea what is going on.

Sounds like someone transposed your policy number for the correct one.

I was thinking that. The claims guy said it was very difficult to get someone's info unless they give it to you.
