My PS2 was damaged during shipping and i want to know if there was anyway i could fix it. Something was knocked out of place or something and it wont read any cd's, and im pretty sure its just not spinning them (can't hear them spin at all). Its past its warranty so im gonna have to fix it myself. Is there anyone or any site that could help me? please i dont wanna lose 300$!

Thanks -Gary

You can't hear the disk spin up in a PS2. I bet the lense is dirty. It happened to mine too. It kept saying "error reading disk" or something like that. Just open it up, find the optical lens, and put some lens cleaner on it.

i put cd's in and it does nothing...doesnt tell me an error or anything...i put my ear up to the drive and couldnt hear it spinning so thats what i figured it was. How do i open it up?

You have to pop off all of the little feet on the bottom. There are screws underneath them. Do you even get the usual setup screen where you can look at the contents of your memory cards? If you don't, then I think your problem is much too difficult for a normal person to fix. What kind of crap is Sony trying to pull? $120 just to send it in, and more if an expensive part needs to be repaired.

i get the menu, but it wont recognize any cd's i put it. I can see whats on my memory card and stuff.

Ill try cleaning the lens.

If it was damaged during shipping, couldn't you just call the place you bought it from and get a replacement? Or if it's still under warranty, can't you just call Sony and get it fixed for free?

gdawson6, it's been about 1 and a half hours, any luck yet?

I opened it up but didnt figure out how to get the top panel off, and dont want to use force...ill spend more time on it later though.

Oops, sorry about that. I missed that part.

If it loads up the menu, but wont read the disks, then it is exactly like my problem. Just clean the lens.
