How could almost ALL of the exit polls be so inaccurate?

I can understand some variance here and there, but almost all exit polls had Kerry cruising to an easy victory - even in Florida. In reality, Bush stomped Kerry (compared to exit polls).

Anyone have any theories?

Republicans jacked with them and told them they voted Kerry to screw the mainstream media over

Variations in when each party votes, so maybe they just happened to sample it when Democrats were voting heavier?

Democrats vote during the middle of the day when Republicans are at work

Republicans vote on their way to work in the morning, or after work on their way home from work

Name one Alabama County that uses their machines. One. I watched the exit polls all night. I was at the poll for fscking 3 hours because of the line. It has everything to do with the fact that Exit polls are MEANINGLESS.

When things are meaningful (real poll), people will generally tend to be honest with themselves. When the situation is not meaningful (exit poll), people will say anything.....

DIEBOLD

Seriously, several key states also had same-sex marriage bans on their ballots. That brought out the fundies and the bigots in droves and drove up Bush's vote count. Perhaps those people refused to answer exit polling questions, skewing the results.

It could be that the reports of the exit polls gave motivation for Bush voters to get out, and for Kerry voters to stay home.

That very possibility is why they are illegal to broadcast here in Canada.

That was meant as a joke...hence the "Seriously" paragraph. ;)

I have been approached a couple times over the years after voting and I always lie. Screw them. And when I get called before the election I always say I'm undecided even if I'm not. I have no use for pollsters because the politicians have come to depend on the polls to decide what to do.

I thought about this a bit and then it started to bug me...

If that was the case, it should have brought the Non-fundamentalists out as well to block it.

That argument can be turned around to say that the people for gay marrigage are not as passionate about it and don't really care if gays have the right to a legal union.

FWIW, regardless of who I voted for for president, I voted against the constitutional amendment in my state for banning same-sex marriage.

Sigh...the "so-called" liberal media is only as liberal as the corporations that own it...and corporations don't tend to be liberal.

Not to mention that it's hard to imagine how the media could be liberal in a country where a good 75% of the population doesn't even understand what liberalism is...the political spectrum has shifted so far right in America that most "liberals" are moderate, "moderates" are actually conservatives, and "conservatives" are extreme right-wingers. Dennis Kucinich was the ONLY liberal running for the democratic nomination in '04, and even he was only slightly left on a political chart.

Diebold, ES&S, Sequoia.

(If you really count Diebold & ES&S as 2 separate companies)

Why is it the ONLY elections where the exit polls have been off by more than 1/2% have been 2000 and 2004 (the 2 dubya elections), and they are used as a fraud screen internationally?

BTW, Mill, Alabama uses ES&S. Bob Urosevich is the founder of BOTH Diebold and ES&S (his brother currently runs ES&S if you really consider them to be separate).

I find the use of exit polls as a fraud screen is utterly stupid. because there are people like me who like to mess with the polls and lie

how does a pollster know if you're telling the truth? or are we naive to think people are honest and will tell the truth?

Well in many or most of the red State the clergy told the Parishoners to say they were voting for Kerry even though they were voting for Bush. Worked like a Champ.

Still looking for that missing win? They only interviewed the young and up and coming of the crowd. They interviewed based on the presence of IPOD earbud leads showing. They ignored the people that they thought didn't count. Bias leads to serious mistakes like that. There may have been a little of psychology action there too. If they announced an early win for Kerry, perhaps the Bush voters would give up and stay home. Actually, it backfired. When Kerry got the early (and erroneous) win, the Kerry voters stayed home.
