How could a city be so ghetto but all the cities around it are nice.

The cities directly north, south, east and west of this particular city are very nice. But when you enter this city it's quite bad with run down neighborhoods, trash everywhere on the streets and poorly dressed people walking up along the city streets. You probably wouldn't want to walk around there yourself.

I see new housing projects and stores coming in but do you really want to live in these new places yet your immediate surroundings are still in bad shape?

Not sure what area you're talking about, but it seems like the majority of downtowns in any larger city is like that. It all depends on your perspective though. Some people are so used to the Truman Show'esque lifestyle of the 'burbs that they don't know what a downtown/midtown neighborhood is like.

Personally, I hate the 'burbs.

Downtown Los Angeles is actually pretty nice. There are some rough neighborhoods to the south of Los Angeles. If you wanna see rundown cities, come to the east coast or Detroit.

Yeah, but you have the money to afford good housing in the city. The average person cannot so he/she chooses to get more house/land for his/her money and live further out from the city.

Makes sense to me.

Ive been to just about every major city in this country and downtown Los Angeles is no worse than average. There are some rough areas in LA county but thats true for any large city, especially a county that has over 8 million residents. But Santa Monica, Beverly hills and the North Hollywood Hills are examples of nice areas in LA county. And right to the south you have Orange County which includes Irvine, which has one of the lowest crime rates country.

Where did I mention crime rates as a factor? The whole place is horrible...cannot stand it.

Man I hated Detroit so bad, it's been 10 years and I hear it's still just as $h!tty. Abondoned houses all over the place.

I don't miss the "Mistake by the Lake" either.

Los Angeles is a very large county/city. That's a pretty ignorant statement you are making.

Where do you work if you don't mind? I live right off of Holt by the 71. I work in Monrovia though (605 and 210).

I work over at Western University. Funny that you mention about not wanting to walk around here, I walk to work everyday.
