I see some Core processors getting 27C idle and I'm amazed, wondering if the Pentium D should be as high as it is for me? I googled and the max temp is aorund 70C, so I'm still good, but cooler is always better :)

the common preception is that Pentium Ds burn with the heat of a thousand suns.
i never had a pentium D but i suspect that 40c idle simply means you dont have much case ventilation.

And Core 2 Duo CPUs do run cooler than pentium Ds which are of Netburst architecture.

Well my Pentium D is 29C idle and 34C load, that's overclocking temperature.

You could use CPU-Z, or is that only for Core 2?

CPU-Z doesnt tell tempratures, Core-temp does.

That's because you most likely have a D0 stepping which is the best, newest and coolest version of Pentium D.
