theyre so awesome

anyone here got a car with HID's or had HID's fitted to their car aftermarket style?

lots of people keep telling me that they are blue in colour, but most arent. they're just ultra bright white and look blue when compared to yellowy glow of halogens.

6000k bulbs are white ?

8000k bulbs are more blueish?

They aren't because I can't see crap when you have them blinding me in my sideview mirrors. (Rear view isn't a problem)

theyre not that bad,

an idiot with his bigh beams on is worse.

its people who dont know how to use the headlamp level control, most people have them whacked up as far as they'll go which is fine if there is like one or two people in the car, but when you have a car load and the rear of the car now sits lower to the ground that lifts the lights up even further which makes them too bright to on coming traffic.

also does anyone find that people who drive around with one headlamp out will put their high beams on as a kind of substitute?

fools, putting full beam on your remaining lamp just isnt a solution, does my head in.

i think HID's rock though, soooo tempted to get some fitted to my focus loL!

stock ones aren't so bad but the aftermarket ones kill me. I've been highbeaming a lot more people lately.

HIDs are fine as long as they are installed correctly.

Modern cars with stock HIDs are fine. The first few cars with stock HIDs were a problem as the potential for dazzling wasn't fully recognised, and the design code wasn't strict enough.

After market HIDs are a major problem because they don't come with appropriate automatic levelling and intgegrated washers (which are both necessary to avoid dazzling). In many places in the world (not the US though) aftermarket HIDs are illegal (you can get your vehicle seized) for this reason.

HIDs have never bothered me. I drive a sedan, so I'm not high up.

I think people are inclined to look at them because their color makes them stand out. Looking at any oncoming headlight is going to cause problems.

I loved the HIDs in my Audi A6 until one bulb needed to be replaced and was going to cost $400 something.

Actually, aftermarket HIDs are illegal in some areas of the country. They don't seize your vehicle, but they will charge a hefty fine.

Factory HID lights are fine.

Third-party aftermarket setups are NOT street legal and are junk.

The fake "HID" bulbs that can replace standard halogens are marketing BS. They generate fewer lumens than normal halogens but create far more glare (this excess glare is why people perceive them as brighter).

Color temperature is completely irrelevant to seeing ability. It impacts color perception, but not sufficiently for there to be any impact on the ability to distinguish objects.

For human vision, the optimal color for night vision is yellow light.

i just love the icy colour they give

some cars like range rovers and discovery's already have quite high headlamps so in some cases they do actually dazzle me, but other than that they are cool.

not alot of cars have them here, its more of a luxury car item and there arent many of those around. though they are starting to trickle down into the highend hatch backs etc

thats odd.... HID's in theory should last the life time of the vehicle. they dont have filaments like normal bulbs. theyre just tubes of gas with an arc struck between two contact points when you turn them on (kinda like how a flurescent tube works)

though audi will ream you on replacements lol $400!

the bulbs themselves are like £70 if that. maybe your controller bust or something

also i heard bulbs like the phillips blue vision (supposedly +30% extra light) burn out really quick.

which is why i went for some Osram silver stars instead. same halogen-ish colour (abit whiter) and +50% extra light, and the difference was amazing, especially on the country roads around here.

some cars turn on their hi-beams automatically when a regular bulb burns out. there is nothing the driver can do about it other than replace the broken bulb as soon as possible.

they're annoying and unncessary. i can see the road just fine with regular lights and i know they dont blind other drivers
