How companies plan to spend the tax cuts

It is called virtue signalling. The companies most responsible for corrupting our political system do this in an attempt to protect their most valuable employees, Republican lawmakers. Pretty effective. Don't expect any of those savings to trickle down to their customers, expect the opposite.

The economy was moving at a pretty rapid clip, I would expect it to go into high gear. My hypothesis is that we are moving into a catastrophic bubble. Hopefully the Republican corporatists are right and I am wrong and the middle and working classes win in the long run.

That's how I interpreted it. They didn't waste any time painting a positive picture on this giving employees wages that they should've already been paying them. I would imagine that their margins will only get fatter under Trump.

And before one of the Republican apologists wanders into this thread, a couple of important points on those companies that claim they're offering bonuses thanks to the tax plan:

1. Initiatives from AT&T and others were potentially planned before. Remember, Trump has repeatedly tried to falsely take credit for US job initiatives that were in the works before he was even elected; don't assume corporations were just waiting for this bill to hand out bonuses or increase spending.

2. A bonus is not the same as a pay raise. Even if we assume it's a direct response to the tax plan, will you get that bonus next year? Probably not. In fact, don't be surprised if this is just about optics, making it look like a pre-planned bonus is a response to the tax plan so that you vote Republican and get the anti-competitive deregulation the companies so desperately want.

When does the timer start?
Usually the way this works is that bonus\raises\ were part of some deal written months ago and that the actual implementation is far removed from the initial claim.

I'm also guessing that the amount of people working less than 15 and hour for Wells Fargo and other banks is fairly low or at the very least very volatile. Also considering that industry will be looking at significant downsizing in the near future any positions at that wage level will likely be short lived. Same goes for Comcast.
Enjoy your 15 dollars an hour. By the way expect layoffs in 2018. So make sure you save that little bit of chumpchange.
ATT bonuses - That's nice of them, I guess. Sure would suck if you normally get a higher bonus but "This year....it's only 1000 because we wanted to send a message that we support republicans"

Boeing announcement - Me thinks that the 200 million in training\infrastructure\ crap was happening anyway and the 100million charitable giving thing is basically counting on its employees to get the ball rolling. Guess tax breaks for charitable giving aren't going anywhere.

Basically, this is a bunch of 1%'ers blasting the newsfeed with "Thanks you" letters to the GOP and Trump.

You know me better than that....this is all planned showmanship.

By the way, the politicians are make far more working for the ISPs than the actual employees of the ISPs.

Pretty terrifying to see how much of that money has ended up in Democratic pockets (around $50 million). It is not a slam dunk that we will ever get the Internet back. We have to make it clear, give us our internet or get yourself another job. No compromises.

Interesting, even Bernie took $300,000.

Every one of these companies has something to gain by these tax cuts or want something from this administration. These moves are really no different than the Republicans like corker, who once lambasted trump, to now fondling his balls. Its completely transparent.

My fear is the long term pain that we are going to indure from the historic tax cuts.

For example, $1k bonuses Comcast is going to dish out sounds great, It's going to boost the local economy a bit, because the workers who get the bonuses aren't going to save or invest it. So, short term it's going to be fine. But, what about 5 years from now? We just continue to borrow, and borrow and borrow. This tax cut is going to add another $2T to the deficit.

Oh, Ivana just stated that the the tax cuts will wipe out the national debt. We'll thanks Ivana. I'm sorry but I don't believe you.

They just scored a windfall with the repeal of net neutrality and these bonuses will be taxed at a higher rate than a regular pay raise (not to mention a bonus indicates that it might be a one time thing as opposed to a pay raise).

The mouth breathers eat it up though.
