i never use wifi so im wondering whether dual band wifi on kindle fire would have any practical advantage if you were using it outside your home. in my very limited experience it seems like public wifi is pretty slow (old tech?) so im sort of questioning whether that feature would make a difference

5ghz is rare in my experience which is why some people want to use it at home. Less interference and congestion.

I thought the range of 5Ghz made it impractical to do large scale roll outs in public places. Maybe a coffee shop or something like that might have both 2.4+5Ghz APs running, but that tech is only 2-3 years old.

With LTE these days, public WiFi is a joke anyway. 1Mbps down is like the dialup of today.
