How come we don't see German, Scandanavian, Spanish or Russian restaurants?

I live in Chicago. I've been to all of those types of restaurants. There's a REALLY good Ethiopian place in Wrigleyville, called Addis Ababa. The Egyptian restaurant, whose name escapes me in Oak Park, is not quite as good. I've had Brazilian as well and it's quite tasty.

depends where you live.

In North Jersey / NYC, you'll find just about any restaurant that you could want (except for cajun... I'd kill to find a good/cheap cajun or creol restaurant). We lived above a Polish restaurant for awhile, and I go out to eat Portugese food with my friends at least once a month.

There are suprisingly few Mexican restaurants, but while the area is hugely Hispanic, it's almost all South American / Spanish (ie: from Spain) / Portugese. Lots of Columbian, Ecuadorian, and Cuban restaurants around here.

We also have the infamous Spanish Chinese restaurants (chinese food cooked by Spanish cooks). Those are awesome.

Jacque-Imo's just opened on Columbus and 77th. Absolutely awesome.
Soul Fixin's on 34th and 9th isn't bad soul food.

uh...that's pretty much it. 🙂

oh and delta grille on 9th and 40-something isn't bad if you're in a pinch. The food isn't great, but the bartender gave me free drinks because I grew up in New Orleans.

German food sucks by the way. So bland.

No, German food in America sucks. German food is full of spices and flavors. What is served here in America as "German" food just makes me laugh. It is nothing like the real thing. And since I was born and raised in Germany, believe me, I'd know that it's nothing like authentic German cooking.

Oh, and since I moved to Minneapolis I have found that there are quite a few different ethnicities represented with restaurants here in the area: German (3 or 4), an awesome Russian place, Mediterranian, Ethiopian, Polish etc....

Haven't seen a Spanish one though....

americans really have very little interest in variety of food, most won't try new/different things

they just want meat/potatoes
German food fits that to a tee!

It all depends on where you live. I have a german restaurant and a Spanish restaurant within a few blocks from my home

Main reason for foreign restaurants being started is an immigrant from that country deciding to start such a place. If you have 5 German immigrants and 10 million Mexican ones you might expect at least a few more Mexican restaurants than German ones.
