How come so many electronics stores are located in NJ?

GoingUp

Lifer
Abes of Maine,
Buydig,
Newegg etc.

Whats the deal? Why are so many electronics and camera stores located in or near NJ?

large port, close to some major tech areas in NJ/NYC, and central-ish location for deliveries to the mid-atlantic and new england?

Just a guess, but I'd say it has to do with large amounts of industrial area for warehouses & several large ports for container ships to deliver large quantitys of freight from Asia.

I'd add that the rent must be dirt cheap to. 😛

certainly.

we lost a lot of our manufacturing factories and are left with a ton of empty warehouses and such.

I also think they do it to save sales tax for NYers.

Since Newegg is in NJ, I as a NYer, do not have to pay sales tax on items purchased there.

If I have to pay sales tax I would look elsewhere for my goods.

There are 8 million of us in the city alone. Who would want to lose that business.

Newegg used to only be in CA. They've since expanded (good thing).

I think CA has more than NJ does, which surprises me considering the taxes and such. OK, close to china/taiwan/japan/etc but so is Oregon.
