How come nobody is talking about the Atrix HD?

I have one as my work phone. Really nice device with so-so battery life. Unfortunately it has zero development surrounding it, the phone doesn't even have root access yet. When I lost my original One X at Lollapalooza a couple weeks ago I used it as my main phone until my replacement One X came in and while I did like it, and loved having an SD card again, the poor battery life and lack of customization options pushed me away from it. Still a great phone for most consumers though that arent interested in the things I do with my phone.

Motorola blew its last breath with the Atrix which they botched. The Milestone to many was really their last chance, and with the unlockable bootloader, people still did quite well. If you looked at the Milestone development thread on XDA in 2010-2011, it was quite bustling. The famous V6 supercharging script everyone uses originated from a Milestone developer.

If you look at the Milestone 2 and 3... well... there's practically zero development. Motorola's pretty much a nobody now. So for phones they only feed through carriers, you can bet almost no one cares to work on them especially because they'll never unlock bootloaders for American carriers.

As for the original question, did you notice that the One X is going for the exact same price at AT&T? Yeah.
 
And yet the Atrix 2, which is an excellent phone, has decent development (at least on XDA). I expect mine will serve me for a good while yet.
 
motorola phones aren't sexy
people spending $200 want a sexy phoned
atrix HD is same specs as atrix 1 which came out > 1 year ago and still doesn't have ICS let alone JB. Why would anyone buy Motorola again? I certainly won't.

I think they're arite. Nothing like the SGS1 or 2 IMO but better than the fugly SGS3. I thought the Atrix HD is a dual core S4? If so that's just like an SGS3.... I'd take one if Moto was developer friendly. But given this is an AT&T only phone, good luck with that. I'd rather have a world device like the i9300 that will get plenty of support and a large user base.

I got an Atrix 2 from Amazon but it wasnt unlocked. I dont feel like dealing with AT&T's nonsense. And now that I think about it, I prefer the thing as a standalone device for all my free Amazon apps. Its also got a nice camera (for a phone).
 
It is nothing more than a rebranded Razr, without the battery life of the Maxx. Nothing special to write home about. With the One X & SG3 to go up against, it pales in comparison.

exactly . it's alright. There are two other awesome phones out there you can buy, why buy an "alright" phone? If I'm willing to get over the 1GB ram vs 2GB i would get the one x. if not the SGS3 or the xiami.

MotoBlur, locked boot loader, late Android updates, no support from the modding community, etc...

My Droid is still locked to Verizon but I was able to unlock the bootloader and install ROM's and stuff.
Ditto the Atrix 2. I bought it from Amazon supposedly unlocked from AT&T. It wasnt. I was able to do what I wanted anyway. And the Motoblur was hardly noticeable or annoying.

As for not having a proper flagship device, you guys seem to echo what everyone else is saying. They need to focus on fewer, better phones.

Wrong. Take five minutes over at XDA and see how many Moto phones have had custom ROMs adapted. Sure, they're not the darling, sexy Samsungs, but they do OK. The company, however, is apparently run by dolts.
 
i prefer motorola phones to samsung and htc. atrix hd is pitched as a mid range phone at att and yet it is better than verizons "high end" razr phones. i wish they would bring it to verizon, id get one, even though i hate this new motorola trend of having non replaceable batteries.
 
I actually disliked the body style of the Atrix HD when I went to go look at one. It seems like they wanted to make it more uniform rather than go super-thin with a hump, but all that did for me was just make it feel really weird. And the bit thicker body style just makes me wonder why the didn't go straight to a 3300mah battery. It's just about as think as the MAXX as it is.

I also was not a fan of the massive bezel on the thing. It feels like they could have shrunk the phone down a good bit. Or at least put in capactive buttons.

It might just be me, but the OneX feels like a much tighter, higher quality device. The specs are pretty much the same. When the the Atrix HD could be bought for $50 on contract and the OneX was $200, This was an easy decision. Now that it's $50 vs $100, it becomes more of a matter of personal preference. But, for me, the OneX would be a better device.
