How come Disney blows now? (No more timeless classic films)

I really have to admit that I love old Disney films. Their grand scale classics were just awesome, accompanied by beautifully orchestrated soundtrack (like Hans Zimmer)

Take Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, etc for example. Most of those movies have turned into broadway shows and is still being played @ LA/NYC so on... I think it all went down hill from Lion King. I don't remember a single memorable animated film from them since that movie...

Anyone else agree?
 
I really liked Mulan!! I do agree that some of the newer ones haven't been as good as the classics. 🙂

I also hate how they keep making sequels to the classics, such as Lady and the Tramp and Pater Pan. I didn't like the idea of a sequel to the Little Mermaid either but the first two bother me the most.

Weel, I kind of lliked Hercules and Tarzan, otherwise than that yes, Disney sucks lately (Atlantis was the worst... I was so dissapointed 🙁 ).
 
Disney sucks now because they feel obligated to release a film in order to capatelize on potential money. All money driven now 🙁

Following this statement you mention The Lion King, Alddin, etc. You are showing your young age.

The truly great Disney films were made in the '50's and '60's. "Fantasia", "Old Yeller", "Peter Pan", "Snow White" and "Song of the South."

BTW, you will never see "Song of the South" because Disney is terrified that is would inflame the black American community because of its Southern tilt. They have said that they will never re-release it. I wish I had a copy.

eh... Pixar ones don't really count.. although Toy Story was an excellent film.. it didn't have that grand feeling that Aladdin/Lion King/Beauty and the Beast left as the credits rolled...

Edit: BTW, you can find Song of the South if you look hard enough. There have even been DVDs made.
 
yeah I've thought this as well at times (same movies Aladdin, Lion King)


but then I just blame it on that fact that I'm older now (20) and those were the movies when I was that age.... so I'm not sure

I think you're right. Their latest piece spirited away is just a dub of an anime movie (though a good anime).
 
No morals to bend since I don't really have a fixed source. They show up on ebay and specialty sites occasionally. Doing a quick search on Google turned up lots of hits, but most of the stores seem to be out.
 
Land Before Time XCIIXBIXZBI was the best one. was it even disney? all i know is that that one was the coolest land before time yet
 
disney blew b4 lil mermaid for quite a while. maybe they are going through a period of sh*ttiness again. i hope it doesn't last long.
 
The main reason, as I see it, is that the "classic" films just don't sell as much anymore. It's much easier and cheaper and more profitable to create some cheapo rehash of Cinderella than it is to come up with something truly memorable.

I mean, come on, look at the Disney Channel these days. I've looked in as my little sister watches it, and that's just some pitiful stuff. They play the same movies over and over, and why? Because kids these days are bred on the mindless crap of the times. There's definitely a parallel between the Disney Channel and Disney movies.

Remember, companies follow the money. And kids provide the money ultimately. And that's not a good combination these days.
 
Go see Spirited Away if you want to see what the creative people at Disney would like to be doing. Unfortunately, the studio heads want to keep churning out formulaic drek for the lowest common denominator.

It's simple: Kids grow up, and the next generation hasn't seen those cartoons yet, so they can rerun them. And some kids don't sit behind the TV 24/7 anyway, or don't have a good enough memory (yet) to remember every cartoon they've seen, or some of them may even like to see their favorite cartoons more than once a lifetime.

the new disney flick, Treasure Planet looks weird. reminds me of Titan AE. I hope it's not as bad as that though.

What happened to all the musical disney movies??? The last one was Mulan, I believe, right?

I pre-ordered Beauty & The Beast on DVD from Deep Discount DVD for $20 shipped. Great deal!
