How close to the wedding do you hold a bachelor party?

Buddy's gettin married July 31st, next year.

What dates are appropriate for a trip to Vegas? Trying to do an extended weekend kind of thing.

i'm kind of confused about this whole thing, is it permissible for the groom to actually sleep with another woman?

Not if he wants to retain his "groom" status. 😉

1 to 2 days before... Get him so drunk that he is still drunk at the wedding...
just kidding

this is bad advice, i wasnt the groom but...

we had a non-stop week of drinking binges, i was one of the groomsmen, needless to say, day of the wedding, i wake up an hour before it starts (3pm), still dizzy as a mofo, the whole week is still hazy. :Q

i say the wkend before, give at least 2 days for recovery back to normal 😉

Bachelor parties are not for the groom. They are for the grooms friends. Which is why its very selfish for the groom to not want to have one.

Bachelor parties are an unspoken "anything goes and noone there tells anyone who wasn't there anything" kind of deal. Anyone who tried to bring a camera get the sh!t kicked out of them. No parents allowed.

It's your last night before oficially becoming connected to your SO. What you choose to do with it is up to you.

Depends how much forgiveness time he will need. I would go this next weekend.

My brother's friend had his the night before the wedding. The bride was not happy. 😀

I wouldn't say that. Presumably the groom loves his future wife and isn't going to engage in any hanky panky. My friend's bachelor party was a weekend of golf with the guys. No strippers, no booze. But still fun.

Hell, my Father-In-Law bought me a lap dance 😀

The best bachelor parties are depraved affairs that leave the groom-to-be totally degraded and humilated and all of his single (and occasionally married) friends spent. As Ynog said, they aren't so much for the groom as his friends.

That said, I am looking forward to mine in February... 🙂

(1 month prior to the wedding)

There is no such thing as a Jack and Jill bachelor party...

edit - note: the obvious exception is when jill is paid to be at the party....

I'd say a good week or two before. Hell, I had mine almost a month before. Just depends on how many schedules you have to work around.

There is two sides to the word selfish.

Feh. It's your wedding. If your friends want to go out and to the nudey bar and get blasted in your honor and you don't want to go, they are free to do so. When they take you out to celebrate, they should respect your limits and boundaries. It's not selfish - it's your wedding, not theirs.
