How close to Civil War is the USA?

The USA sometimes seems like the most divided country in the world. There's so much hatred and rage. At the very least, there is an extreme lack of unity overall and a solid sense of superiority on both the left and the right. How close to Civil War are things, really?

Not close at all.
Fighting on Facebook is quite different than actual Civil War...

Just asking. I'm an outsider. Not suggesting there should be. Just asking.

You're Right--It does seem like more than enough Hatred to go around-and then some,
But a Civil War not.

Most of the Troublemakers and Hate Spewers are just Hate mongers without the Stomach nor the Organizational abilities to Kill thousands.

There is a lot of hatred & rage...if you watch the news all the time. But it's like any other country...most people here are just average Joes. There's a few vocal crazy people and some corrupt leaders, and those are the people who are constantly in the news. The rest of us, not so much.

I think the biggest reason we don't self-implode is due to our government structure, which is unlike most other countries in the world. There's no king, no dictator, no communist regime, and every four years we can vote someone new into office without bloodshed...and you can't stay longer than two terms as president, so even if you have someone crappy in office who really screws things up, it's not forever. The whole foundation with the Constitution etc. gives people a lot of freedom for how they live their lives, religions they choose, political views, and of course, having the press be fairly transparent about things...free speech is huge. I mean, look at what happens when other countries get the ability to communicate freely:

There is like a zero percent chance of Civil War here. I mean, it's always a risk, but I've lived all over this country & people are pretty chill wherever you go...same as every other country. The sensational stuff is simply blasted all over the news 24/7. Even if you look at the history of war, the guys in management decide to start a one & send out a bunch of 18-year-old kids who don't want to kill people (or die) to fight each other. They don't want to fight us any more than we want to fight them. Sometimes indoctrination happens at a government level (just look at North Korea...those guys are bananas about anti-US propaganda), but nobody's forcing anyone into any particular style of thinking here in America, so...yeah. I don't foresee any kind of civil war going on here. And it's not like we're going to go at it with our neighbors...we like Canada, and if we picked a fight with Mexico, our agricultural system would completely collapse.

The Middle East, on the other hand...some crazy stuff will be going down with Israel in the future. That's going to be the epicenter of everything, calling it now!

We aren't. One side has all the guns and skills useful for warfare but lacks high intelligence or diversity in thought or population, and vice versa for the other side.

It would like watching a fight between these two guys:

Eh, there's plenty of intelligent people on the right and there's a lot of complete morons too (same as the left, for both). But between Urkel and that sister-fucker, I sure know who I'd put my money on in a fight.

^This statement probably hits closer to the truth that the author probably intended. I think people have many outlets nowadays for venting, and it's hard to reach the "critical mass" for actual hostilities.

Not at all.

I can tell you are young. The 50's and 60's were far more turbulent than now. There aren't armed soldiers on the streets of the capitol at the moment, are there? How about on our university campuses? Not there either.

You have a lot to learn.

I don't know, maybe check out...every country in the Middle East?

We pretty much thrive on hating ourselves and getting over it without violence, more or less. It's what makes the US awesome.

In fact, we were founded on that principle and you might as well say that it is our constitutional duty to be sh!tty @ssholes to one another--right there at #1.

Before you can have a war you need sides and before you can choose sides you need a cause. What are we going to fight about? We have so many factions that hate so many other factions that who fights against whom would depend on what finally ignites which powder keg. Are we going to fight based on religion? Race? Economic status? Immigration status? Government? Resources?

It will happen as soon as Obama declares himself second emperor of the united states through executive power, disbanding the electoral process and sending the drones to our back yards to enforce Islamic law.

Yet I could skip school and go to DC and run around pretty much anyplace I wanted to go in the US Capitol or any other public building. Pennsylvania Avenue was just another DC street that we would drive down with visitors so they could see the White House. Anyone could access the small shopping center in the Pentagon. We have lost a lot of liberty since the end of the cold war one small innocuous step at a time.

Yeah, the capitol building is like a fortress now. It's all fenced off with armed guards and blast walls at all of the entrances, and you basically can't in there without a tour appointment.
