MBNA got bought my Bank of America a few years ago, so they've got plenty of clout now. I seem to remember MBNA being the last significantly sized credit card company that only did cards, no normal banking services, so I'm betting it was more a lazy CS rep.

As for the OP, I use my cards so infrequently that I just look at the statement and make sure I remember all the uses. I've only called in once on a odd looking charge, turned out the merchant's transaction submission system had an error and didn't put the charge through until a month later.

My wife compares our receipts to the actual transactions once we download them into Money from their website.

I don't save receipts or anything, but I check every transaction to make sure that I remember I made it. If it looks off then I'll look into it further but otherwise I pay.

Some stores have some funky names that come up on the CC though, and I'm like.. wtf is this, but I always figure it out.

Edit: this is checking like once a week.. don't think I'd remember a whole month's worth of charges.

I rarely check my CC bill in the mail anymore. I pay it online, and usually have a quick scan through the reported transactions. Other than that, if someones skimming a dollar at a time, I won't know.

I try to check my receipts, but I'm usually too lazy. I generally just check online every few days and compare my receipts with "Recent Activity."

Since I only have about one purchase a month at the most (often going 2-3 months between any activity) it's not rocket science. I glance at it, if it seems about right that's all I do.
