How carefully do you verify your CC statements?

Anyone CC thread. My mother is very careful with her statement and saves each and every CC reciept then cheacks every purchase to make sure it was the right amount and everything checks out OK.

All I do is make sure that I remember making each purchase and that there is nothing in there that I didn't purchase and or no double charges. I don't save and check receipts.

Then again I don't have all that many purchases despite using my CC as my only form of payment.

I use QUICKEN to download all my financial transactions (CC, checking, savings, investment, etc). Quicken downloads the transactions for me on a daily basis and I review it daily and "accept" and categorize transactions. Lately, I've been saving receipts and scanning those into Quicken.

I only save receipts for big ticket purchases that habe a warranty of 1+ year

Ditto. Though I really like the new tap-and-go feature of some cards (my amex) but it gives me no real details. Just says tells me the date, amount, and city. I would like the store name at least.

I usually have good memory with my transactions and just glance it over every month before paying the bill.

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being extremely carefully... about a 3.

My wife was working in a restaurant when she was working on her undergrad degree. She said some of the servers got caught for entering higher tip values than what the customers approved. Credit cards are extremely low security for as often as they're used.

If you don't verify the amounts, the bank rarely will... Always make sure your CC company has a good dispute service setup. AMEX is the best I've seen for this....they return your money promptly and investigations only take a few weeks. My Visa takes much longer (up to 6 weeks according to them).

My parents once got double-charged from Priceline.com and said that their Mastercard company MBNA claimed they didn't have enough clout to get the second charge reversed. They dropped the card after being members for 18 years.

My parents also save every single receipt and check mark them with every statement. Then they make a folder and keep it for a few months in case something comes up.

I keep my receipts and enter them into Microsoft Money. Money will download and match the transactions automatically. When I receive my statement, I balance the account in Money and toss the receipts.

i glance over my statement and generally remember the amount close enough... which is bad because I'm sure i'd miss an extra dollar or two from restaurants and such. Which is why I tend to pay cash there.

I do keep all my receipts for 3 months, in case I do notice something really odd... or something I forgot.

I keep all my receipts, and check them against the statements. After I have balanced them, I staple all of the receipts to the statement and file it. I have all of my VISA and MC statements/receipts going back probably 20 years.

I also use Quicken and download/review and categorize my purchases about once a week.

This is one area where I definitely have a touch of OCD.

I use Quicken also to download and verify my purchases. I don't scan my receipts though. I just file them away.

I'm about the same, though some months I am a 1 if I haven't purchased very much, and other months I can be about a 9, but those months are mainly after I've been out of town somewhere.

The wife and I glance it over, but our statements are pretty lengthy. Last month was $11K+. The wife uses our personal CCs for business expenses which she gets reimbursed for.

She has caught a hotel charging her double for a stay.

I enter all of my transactions into Quicken as I make them, and then the download process with my bank automatically matches the transactions the bank indicates against those that I entered. It's extremely easy for me to tell if there is a discrepancy, and if so, who is at fault. :)

I will glance over items every few days and make sure they seem right. If it's off by under a dollar, I'd probably wouldn't be able to tell.

I DO double-check sit-down restaurants where I leave a tip. I've caught the waiter/waitress adding extra money to the tip. I keep receipts for restaurants now. I hardly eat out anymore though...

I get the email, login, read it over line by line, look up anything that seems too high, pay if ok which it usually is.

I guess it depends. If it's just my usual monthly charges I'll glance it over but anything like restaurants, hotels etc, I'll look at them closer.
