How can you tell if yogurt has gone bad?

Expiration date was June 2011. But it still tastes like yogurt. Why throw out some perfectly good food if it's still okay?

It gets moldy. Other than that, it doesn't really go bad. It'll get more tart since the bacteria eat the sugar(I think that's what's happening there), but I don't think it gets harmful. I am surprised it lasted a year though. Mine usually gets moldy before then.

What has already expired can't have an expiration date. That's just stupid. It's like cheese. When regular cheese "go bad," they just turn into another kind of cheese. Yum.

To test:

1- eat questionable yogurt
2- wait about 4-10 hrs
3- if violently ill, yogurt is bad. otherwise, good.

That's what I did. I ate the stuff yesterday afternoon and I'm not violently ill yet.

I'm going to have some more. Tastes good but tangy.

Theres actually an official testing procedure for unknown foods in the SAS manual. But it takes 24 hours to do properly.
You rub some on the palm of your hand.
Wait 2 hours.
Rub some on the back of your hand.
Wait 2 hours.
Rub some on your lips.
Wait 2 hours.
Rub on gums.
Wait 2 hours.
Chew a bit, spit it out, keep the saliva in your mouth for a short while.
Wait 2 hours.
Chew and eat a very small amount.
Wait 2 hours.
Chew one mouthful.
Wait 12 hours.

No shit, thats the process.

If it's fuzzy, it's definitely bad. A year past the Best Before date, I don't care if it's not fuzzy, I ain't eating it. Just not worth the risk for something so cheap.

I think yogurt doesn't go bad. But that is just me.
I say go for it.
Most "expiration date" stuff is pretty bs in my opinion.

Active bacteria Greek type yogurt, I would worry about. Other brands that are pasteurized and processed to death should have a ten year use by date.

Ask yourself these questions...

Is it green?
Is it supposed to be green? If no, it's bad. If yes, it's good.
Does it smell funny?
