I just save up enough for a 360 so i decided to go down to our local walmart to look at some cheap hdtv's but i was surprised at how expensive they were,i'm thinking should i get the 360 now and play it on my crappy non hdtv or just keep saving until i can afford a hdtv as well.If i didn't have bills, car payments it wouldn't be much of an issue but damn if you want to game in this generation its gonna cost you.

I'm glad you weren't looking at HDTV's this time last year, or the year before that. You'd really been discouraged by prices 🙂. For us who keep up with the market, the prices on LCDs are amazingly cheap, actually, and will only keep falling. You can easily get a super-nice 32" 720p HDTV for $500 these days, which is awesome.

Sure they cost a lot, but damn it is worth it. Not just the picture quality, but for LCD's, the space you can save is great. I have tons more room since I was able to get rid of my 32" CRT.

I'm not quite sure what kind of reply you're looking for, but "expensive" is a relative term. I took the plunge on my Samsung 56" DLP last year and found it to be very affordable. Five years ago spending the same amount of money would have been out of the question.

That said, HDTVs are still a luxury and not a necessity.

As someone else mentioned, having a (non-minimum wage) job provides enough money to buy one (depending on the pay). My TV was only $1300 around a year ago, which is pretty good. Now I see 32" Vizio LCD TVs in Wal-Mart for about $550, which is cool.

you should really look around for black friday deals, you can probably find a good deal on an HDTV somewhere that fits you. Don't limit yourself to just LCD or Plasma either.

only prob with that is that its most likely gonna require standing in line in the cold for like 8 hours

Expensive? My friend just picked up a 60" Sony LCD projection 1080p from Circuit City for $1500 + tax/stand. Given that same set cost 2x that amount not long ago I'd say HDTV's are very cheap these days. I guess it's all relative though.

Hunt for deals? I got my 48" JVC rear projection HDTV a few years back when Best Buy was clearing them out. I got $500 off plus no interest for 18 months on the BB credit card. I just setup a payment schedule in my online banking to send a payment in every month. I did the same thing when I got a 27" HDTV for my bedroom. Waited for a deal at Best Buy and it about $200 cheaper and put it on my BB credit card and am currently paying it off.

A 27"-32" LCD TV can be had for around $500 (the cheaper brands, anyway). The 27" JVC CRT that I've had since I was a freshman in college cost just under $600 brand new. I'd say the prices on HDTVs are pretty good considering what you're getting, and as others have said they are only getting cheaper.

We are grown ups that are finished with higher education?😉 Or just look at the number of people that carry CC debt month to month, and it is clearly evident that not being able to afford something, does not impede these people from making the purchase, unwise as it may be.

Buy a used CRT HDTV. It'll be cheap, and work fine. Heavy, but better IQ than quite a few LCDs.

But, just in general, you could find a job. Or just not buy one. People with good incomes shouldn't have issues buying HDTVs anymore.

Do you have to buy some uber 1080p set? My rinky dink 27in Syntax Olevia hdtv that I paid 400 for last year does the trick. Its not the greatest but my 360, modded xbox and cable hd stations look pretty darn good to me. If you want something just budget for it. Create an envelope, label it "hdtv fund" and put in a 20 dollar bill each week. Sounds a little silly but do that and eventually you'll be able to buy a hdtv.

...or you could just sign up for a credit card, buy a fancy hdtv and go into deep debt. 😛

They are cheap compared to what they were 3 years ago. Hell, even in one years time I've watched my plasma TV drop in price by about 50%. That's a kick to the crotch.

10 years ago a decent 32" fishbowl screen CRT TV would have cost you around $450 or so.

Right now you can buy 32" LCD HDTV's for around $500 depending on the brand/sale. That's a decent deal considering the improvements in quality and reduction in physical size for the same price.

not me, i only have old timey tv's

but our main big 36" tube tv is starting to go out. the high voltage transformer is starting to make funny noises and sometimes i have to unplug it to get it to turn on

so by next summer, it might die and then i'll have to get a flat "hi def" tv

i won my HD tv and surround system.....

but prices are a TON lower than they were, you can get away with $500 for a nice 32" LCD!

I use to think electronics were way too expensive.

Then I got a salaried job.

Got a 42" 1080p recently and couldn't be happier. Reasonable price too (<$1,000).
