I have 2 idential toshiba hds.

One has many bad/unread able sectors. The other one works great...

All my important data is on the old bad/unreadable one.. Would it be possible to switch circuit boards and the old one work?

What exacully is a bad sector? Circuit board issue or hd platter issue?

thanks!

I think you're looking at a platter issue as a sector is a particular area on your disk.

Bad sectors are a matter of the actual disk platter material. What's gone is gone. (That's why people who care about their data make backups.)

It seems like 1 Platter issue to me as well and as stated bad sectors are gone...you can keep the HD going with bad sectors and many Utilities (even in the OS) will keep it running by simply skipping over and/or X'ing out that area of the Platter/HD
