As soon as I turn my PC on and it gets to the first screen when starting,PC Health says my processor is 42C/107F. How in the freakin eh can that be correct? My PC is in the basement and it is very cool down here, so I know damn well it can't be sitting here at 107 or anywhere close to that when the system has been off for 8+ hours. I have an 8K3A+, with an 1800+ Palomino. Is it possible that this is just plain out reading wrong?

How can I find out the real temperature, or at least confirm the temp, using something other than motherboard monitor? I hate that program. Any other easy to use choices, which will work in XP with my mainboard?
Thanks

42° C sounds about right for a Athlon XP. Thats where my P4 runs when idle.

You Lucky dog

those are actually very good temp for this board considering they are actual on dye or die?) temperatures.
they usally run 15 to 20c over the usual socket thermosistor.

I had a 8k3a+ booted up my 1600xp on a gc 68 bios temp was 58 to 63C

so 42 on dye or die temp upon bootup sounds good

There is a new bios that enables you to increase the shutoff temp in the bios to more than 70C if you want to do this

peace

Well when I re-start after surfing the web/playing mp3s, the temp is 60/140. This is normal???

my old Tbird ran way cooler than this. I thought the palominos gave off less heat..jeez.

It's not a matter of how much heat is actually being given off. As someone said earlier, this temp is being read on die which will usually report 15-20 degrees higher than a socket reading in a thunderbird. Your temps are fine.

Just think of it as a Dehumidifier for your basement.:p

Yeah, I was confused over the same thing ... why my Athlon XP 2000+ was over 50 c on startup ^_^ Then I found out it's using the internal thermal diode (as someone already posted) which gives higher (and more accurate) readings than socket temps.

I'd say don't worry. As long as your system is stable it's all good. The XP is rated up to 90 degree's anyway :p

Sometimes a bios update will fix any temperature irregularities, so maybe try to see if your mobo has any BIOS updates out
