How can they be considered "World Champs"...

When the league they play in is barely passable for an "international" sport? Yes, I'm talking about baseball. The same can be said about basketball, and even more so about American football.

Now don't get me wrong, baseball actually is a world-wide sport, despite my disdain for it even being called a sport. But honestly, calling a team that plays in MLB a world champion? That's a little ballsy isn't it?

/artifical rant

Players from all over the world play in the sport.

I always read stuff from people who want the MLB champs to go against the Japan League champs (Bobby Valentine is one such person) to determine a "World Champion" but nothing ever comes of it. There is a MLB All Stars versus Japan thing every few years but thats about it. There is also the World Baseball Classic which I like though lots of fans and executives hate.

Whether it's politically correct or not, it is the league for baseball. I take far more issue with basketball, where there are actually some other pretty good leagues and football, who nobody else gives a crap about.

If you play in Japan, Cuba, China etc, and are good enough to play in the MLB, you will come to the USA and play in the MLB.

Pretty much makes it the world's premier baseball league.

Same for Basketball (Europe has some decent leagues, but the best players will come to the USA for the money) and Football.

Funny you mention that. I was just reading that Sunday Night Football actually had higher ratings than the World Series that night, and that is apparently the first time that has ever happened.

That's not saying much. Monday Night "Raw" has had better ratings than MNF for over a decade.

Nothing ever comes of it because Japanese teams would get absolutely demolished. The Japanese league is most closely approximated by AAA here in the US.

Probably because it was the Giants vs the Rangers :p.

since this was probably the only league in the world for a very long time they were technically correct. babe ruth was smacking home runs when the rest of the world was still recovering from world war 1.

If the Giants went on to play the best teams from all the other leagues in the world, they'd crush them.

Hell, the Orioles probably would, too.

Probably because the WBC doesn't have the best players.

Truth be told, the MLB is a collection of the best players from around the world. Sure, probably the majority were born in the US, but there are a lot of guys from countries in Latin America, and a few from Japan too.

Also, technically, MLB isn't played entirely within the US. You've got the Toronto Blue Jays!

Hmm, I don't think you pay much attention to basketball, but whatever. Whenever there's an exhibition game between an NBA team and a Euro team, the Euro team gets slaughtered. Badly.

The real issue should be with FIBA, and the NBA - FIBA does determine a world champion, and rightly so do they have the title.

Same can be said for baseball.
