How can "professional" people be so damn messy. Coffee machine rant!

I work in a big IT consulting firm, and we have a coffee area. In this area, there are bags of coffee beans, a grinder, filters, a brewer, and pots with pump handles which you put the brewed coffee in. I would like to think that as high educated consultants, people would have the common decency to clean up after themselves. From first hand experience, the coffee area is a mess at the end of each day.

Here is what these "consultants" end up spilling throughout the day:
-Unbrewed coffee grounds
-Brewed coffee grounds
-Coffee spilt in numerous places
-Creamer(powdered)
-Sugar

These people will leave the used coffee grounds and the filter lying around in different places! What the hell are they thinking? Did these people have everything handed to them in life, or are they to "good" to clean up after themselves? ARG!!! :|

I'm with you, bud. People are such damn slobs. Here's some of my pet peeves. (In order of how badly they piss me off)

1. Leaving exactly 1/16 (one-sixteenth) of an inch of coffee in the pot and not making more. :| I look at it this way; when I walk over there with my empty cup, I want to see coffee in there. I need caffeinne NOW, DAMMIT. It's rude to leave an empty pot; it takes exactly 30 seconds to put a filter in, put in three scoops of coffee, fill the thing w/water. Simple.

2. Spilling coffee all over the machine/counter/floor/cabinet and not even making a half-assed attempt at wiping it up. When you spill stuff in your kitchen, do you just leave it there? 'Nuff said.

3. Using 1/2 packet of sweet and low and putting the OPEN envelope back in the box....what were you thinking? Gee, I wonder why we have roaches in my office?

There's a few others, but that's the major ones.

that TOTALLY ruins my day if that happens to me.

It was so bad at one point, that my father mandated a cleaning schedule from each "team." So every Friday, somebody from a team will designate a person to clean the coffee machine, clean out the refrig, etc.

It doesn't take more than 15 minutes, but damn, some people are slobs....

i know EXACTLY what you are talking about. i agree with you. our break room is just as bad as yours, but you should see our men's restroom! it disgusts me, and it is cleaned every day!! :disgust:

i'm about to go get another cup of coffee...i'll report back my findings in a minute. 😉

oh and postcount++;

EDIT: i'm back. ok i walk in and there is about a half a pot left, but the other pot is empty and is sitting off to the side. don't bother to make more or anything. there is cream and sugar all over the place...the garbage has one of those flip top things...there is used grounds and coffee stains all over it (it was cleaned last night cause i saw the cleaning lady doing it). pigs i tell ya, pigs.

I'm one to leave bits of sugar and spills on the counter but for macro-messes like a filter bag that goes in the garbage. I'm not THAT bad 😉

As someone mentioned above me, it's also super annoying when some dumb-a$$ leaves food in the fridge forever. There was a frozen dinner that was left in the fridge for literally 6 months or so. It eventually became incased in freezer ice, and was never seen again...
