What I find funny is that a lot of people listen to popular music, or rock and think that it is rock and you can distinctly hear a Rachmaninoff melody, or the Pachabel canon. What really bothers me is the state of music education in america these days. It used to be one of the central aspects of public education, now it is pushed aside. Classical music isn't appreciated as much anymore because people aren't exposed to it or don't understand it. Why teach literature or history if you are not going to teach classical music? It is as much a part of our culture as books.

edit: Also I hate when classical music is used in commercials and people identify it as "that song for the commercial!"
It is Liszt, retard.

You must have heard 1812 Overture... It gets played evey year on Independence Day, which is kind of weird since Whtehouse was burnt in that war :D

The piece was written to commemorate Russia's defense of Moscow against Napoleon's advancing Grande Armée at the Battle of Borodino in 1812.

related wars, but pretty different conflicts when it comes right down to it.

The emotion that can be conveyed surpasses anything that can be found on the radio today, and can only be rivaled by Jazz. Though jazz conveys a different kind of emotion, more wild and uninhibited. Plus the musicians are supremely talented.

I totally agree. IMO, no other music comes even close to matching classical or quality jazz.
