Some of the classical music is really good...I mean I can die off peacefully listening to it. But current generation only wants rock/metal etc....

Same reason why people don't like rap or rock or country, it's called different tastes.

Some people have good tastes; other people have bad tastes.

I think you would have a hard time finding a person who dislikes ALL classical music.

I personally believe that there isn't any genre more expressive and emotional than classical (though jazz is extremely expressive and ties as my favorite). In my mind any form of popular music just doesn't compare to the beauty of Mozart or the brilliance of Chopin.

That's a good piece, but out of the violin sonatas I prefer #9. I saw Itzhak Perlman perform #9, #5 and many other pieces a few years back.

On a related note, I got to meet Justin Bell and Gil Shaham this year. Shaham had a great performance of the famous Brahm's Violin Concerto and seems like a very humble person.

I love "classical" music. I try to support it as much as possible through donations, attending concerts, etc. It's a damn shame more of the younger generation isn't exposed to performance art of any kind, let alone classical music.

Listening to #9 now.

Wow, this really demonstrates out how inadequate my computer speakers are. I know how it's supposed to sound, and this isn't it! :(

I'm a fan of the classics (favorite is Chopin), but you can't dance to it and it doesn't get your heart racing in an awesome happy-go-lucky sorta way so I don't listen to it unless I have to.

I'm learning that on the piano right now. I've had the 2nd movement memorized for a year. I started on the 3rd movement before Christmas and I have about half memorized. Hopefully I can get to the 1st movement soon.

Not sure about the happy-go-lucky part, but a full symphony can sure get your heart racing. It's much more impressive in person.

The finale of the Rach 3 is always tremendous fun to watch, and even the hardest anti-classical person will often put up a smile.

I have like 4 different sets of his symphonies 2 of them being DVD-A (Abbado and Barenboim)
and a Karajan set and a cheap no name set.

Also have the sonatas. I like his piano works but I am particular to Mozart for everything else though.

I blame cartoons. When I was little all I watched were merry melodies and looney tunes that often had little or no audio at all, except for a classical score. I have to admit that I can't name the tunes, but I know good classical music when I hear it and it's because I was exposed to it early through cartoons.

Cartoons now are little more than half hour toy commercials. :( No wonder we're raising generation after generation of consumer drones.

I didn't really have any opinion on it until recently. I guess that's what happens when you're never exposed to a thing.

Recently I heard this. Most classical music doesn't do much for me, but Moonlight Sonata mvt.3 gives me chills every time. I need more stuff like that.

I can't get into instrumental music... I just find it really boring.

lyrics and singing are what really make the music for me.
