Reduce the FSB and/or multiplier.
(And you will almost certainly be able to reduce the voltage as well)

In the BIOS there is an FSB and multiplier setting. Try turning those down.

No tools necessary. On my motherboard there is a menu called the "Cell Menu," and all the frequency stuff are located there. Tell us which menus there are in your BIOS main menu.

In my bios there is no option to turn FSB or Multiplier down.. the only options r basic. boot order,IRQ settings,HDD config. and the system specs. that about it.

Because my CPU is overheating... maybe if i lowered it, it wont run as hot.

Just lower the multi down to 9 this will give you 200 x 9 = 1.8Ghz, or you can lower to an x8 multi to get 1.6Ghz, easy!

and yes as stated above you will be able to lower voltage as well which will reduce heat output, ;)

ohh sorry i didnt read you previous post about no options for that in the BIOS (just skimmed) .. you could try clockgen from cpu-id and under clock it with that, although im not to sure if you can actually underclock.. as i only messed about with it on a work computer about year ago  :p

clockgen is free software found here (download the link with the corresponding mobo you have)

EDIT: should be this one

You can definately get at those options with an asus motherboard, you just must be missing it.

EDIT: did you put that computer together yourself or is it an OEM (ie, made by HP, Dell, etc)?

what board do you have? cant believe no one asked, did you build it or is it like a dell? maybe reseat your heatsink. if you cant change it in the bios you have to change it by jumpers. but we cant help if we dont know the board.

edit: my old board was an a7n8x e deluxe and i could change the stuff in the bios. maybe theres a setting thats shows auto, change it to manual.

With that board you have to enable "Expert mode" to get to the bios options

It's a HP board, and there should be a utility provided by HP that lets you make bios changes in Windows:( once the expert mode is enabled

doesn't a 3200+ run at 2.0ghz stock? that should mean you have done overclocking before...

of course you're screwed, you didnt have to call to know that. they arn't going to tell you how to change stuff in the bios. i think theres like a secret pw to get into it, but i'm not sure.

go buy some new thermal paste and reapply the heatsink. best bet.

Use Clockgen from CPUID to lower your multiplier and if necassary lower your voltage
