With a game like DMC4 (if it's anything like DMC3) you wouldn't possibly be able to do it while playing the game.

But if you pause the game and minimize it, then you'll be golden, you can set MSN or AIM to alert you even if you are in a full screen application.

The other alternative is running the game windowed, I'm sure DMC4 can be ran on a window.

If you want to text chat someone in game, maybe you should be playing DMC4 on a 360. Xfire is my only thought for the PC. I'm sure you could just connect to a vent or TS server and talk to people instead... That would be easier, and you wouldn't have to stop juggling enemies.

Dual Monitors + Play game full size in a window. Works great for me!! Even when I tab to the chat window, the game stays up on my primary monitor. :)

yea but the mouse locks to the game screen, so unless the user likes to alt tab through all his windows. or is using AIM6.0 i believe thats uses tabbed window
i know i didnt wanna have to do that while gaming, because it also takes u out of the game... use xfire, or get a 2nd computer :( cheap box at that.

Steam's overlay works for some non-Steam games if you add a shortcut and launch it from Steam.

Edit: That would allow you to use Steam's messenger, but you're kind of SOL on the other options... try playing in windowed mode.

You seem to be a ripe candidate for making this application! Get out there and do it!

The only problem that I forsee is that games are so demanding, that even if the OP coded the app very well, the game will still stutter.

@OP: Have you tried Steam? hit "Add non-Steam game" and when you run the game, you can access the Steam IM program.
