How can i tell what type of memory a computer is running without actually opening the case?

I have someone that asked me to upgrade thier memory, but if I can avoid it I don't want to open her case twice. Once to see what type of memory and once more to install it. It is a Pentium 2 with 32MB right now. I can use PC133 even if her other stick is PC100, right? it will just down speed to the lower 100Mhz, so basically the only thing I need to make sure is that it is 168pin memory, right? Do you think it would be anything else?

SiSoft's Sandra program will give you some info on what type of ram the PC is using. But it is always better to look at a existing ram module to see what type and amount of pins it has before buying ram.

P2 below 350MHz uses 66MHz bus, and 350MHz+ uses 100MHz. Some boards don't like PC133, so be careful.

Spamboy, thanks for that helpful info, but
1. I am not doing work on peoples computers, i am installing a stick of memory for a friend
2. I know this stuff, I know what type of memory it is by looking at it, i am just lazy and don't fell like opening the case twice.

Thanks for everyones help, i will just have to crack open her case.
