How can i tell what speed my NEC-3500A dvd burner is ripping dvd's at?

I think DVDShrink has a speed display, if not try DVDDecypter, or just guess from looking at the size of the DVD in Properties.

Its speeding up now, 4,600 KB/s

I just installed a new firmware on it to get rid of the riplock and wanted to see if there was a difference... Not as fast as i had hoped, but better... 🙂

Any idea what that translates to? 4x? 6x?

Nope, I almost never rip a DVD (just backed up a couple of my out of print anime discs) so I learn it then promptly forget.

Oh well, consider this a bump to find someone who's done the math 🙂

1x is about 1.4MB/sec, IIRC, so you're doing about 3.3x.*

* Unlike CD's, DVDs are VBR, with 1x being the highest rate it needs to hit to do the full quality under the DVD standard. You're likely ripping the movie at better than 3.3 times real time, even though the data rate is only 3.3x

Download Nero CD-DVD Speed from CDSpeed2000.com

Yes, NEC 3500A is very slow at ripping. Get either the AOpen 1648 / AAP or Lite-On 167T.
