I've just installed NetWare 5.1, to learn more about it and get a feel of it, since I'm completely new to this OS.
The graphical user interface they offer is pretty slow. Even on a 1Ghz chip, the mouse is slow to react? I've only 512mb of memory, perhaps more memory will help with the OS running a bit faster?
I have 2 processors that I would like to take advantage of with this OS. I've went into the nwconfig and set it to use MPS14, but things don't seem any faster than before? Also, when I down the server I see that it says "Processor 1 is offline", but what about the 2nd proc?
Is there like a graphical/text utility that can show me real-time CPU/Memory activity in NetWare?
As far as the command prompt mapping goes, the teach has explained a bit more to me, so I'm not as confused as before, so thats good.
There seems to be 3 ways of doing a map, via either:
UNC Naming
Novell Naming
Novell Context Naming (?)
The 1st I'm familiar with. UNC Naming is like Windows. One thing, when I map via UNC do I still have to enter the MAP command? or just type the UNC path directly, as the teach has informed me of such? I tried it without the MAP command in Windows98SE and it didn't work. Guess I need the MAP command to make it work...
With Context Naming, I don't have to specify the entire path starting from root of where I wanna go, it starts at wherever context I'm in. But when I do the map, when I go to type the volume name I have to write it as such --> "constellation_data" rather than just "/data" as is the case in Novell Naming. Neat.
Thx.
