goto the hotdeals and check out the apex deal. its cheaper and I've actually heard of the brand Apex as opposed to the brand ROWA.

I second that. The apex ones are cheap for a reason.
There a pioneer model with progressive scan and component out thats ~150.

First, make sure it doesn't have ROWA written on the front.

Panasonic and Pioneer are the best, and Toshiba is also good if you don't need CDR support or SVCD.

Whats wrong with ROWA? haha, even though i have never heard of them, they might still make good DVDs at that price.

I assumed that he was looking for something CHEAP. That is why I suggested the apex, which I think is probably better then whatever the heck ROWA is. I will second the idea that a good DVD player will have progressive scan. Stay away from Sony. Pioneer and Toshiba are definetly worth looking at.

Like AnandTech is to computer hardware, there are other sites that specialize in other areas. A great DVD forum to read up on players is: Nerd-Out Forums. I have read a little on this player and it's one that I'd stay away from.
