How can I tell from Windows XP what the CPU and case temperatures are?

Is there a program that lets me do that? I cannot remember such a program, and have been frustrated looking for this feature in XP.

I would like to know the difference when the cpu is fully loaded and when it's idle.... etc. Also useful to see if it's worth it to invest in a better hsf.

Do a search and download Motherboard Monitor, MBM it is on several sights on the net. I use it al the time and it is a good program and it will let you know what is going on as far as temps and voltages.
 
I dont think xp has a built in temp monitor, I maybe wrong though.
You can use motherboard monitor in windows to see the temps and fans speeds and voltages.

Once you have installed Motherboard Monitor you can then install CoolMon so you can pin system stats to your desktop like this (see top right of image).
